Richard Freeouf

Richard Freeouf, age 90, resident of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024.  He was born on August 7, 1933, in Wilber, Nebraska to Lumir and Agnes Freeouf.

Richard was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving for four years and dedicating himself to the values of duty and service. After his military service, he embarked on a diverse career path. He grew up working on his family’s farm, which instilled in him a strong work ethic. He then served as a police officer before becoming a self-employed carpenter. Richard also worked at Allied Signal as a Millwright and was an active member of the Millwright Union 1529.

Education played a significant role in Richard’s life. He graduated from Wilber High School. After his Navy service he furthered his education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he completed a degree in Criminal Justice. His commitment to learning and growth remained evident throughout his life.

Richard was a devout member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit, where he participated actively in the community. His faith was an important aspect of his life, providing him with guidance and comfort.

A man of many interests, Richard enjoyed traveling, working on mowers, and was a master gardener, particularly known for his tomatoes. He spent countless hours in his workshop, a place of creativity and camaraderie, often visited by his buddies. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.  He embraced being called “Grumpy” by his family because he was a little rough on the outside but just as soft on the inside.

Richard is survived by his daughter Karen Freeouf; son Richard L. Freeouf (Carla); grandchildren Conner and Dylan Freeouf, and his brother Leonard Freeouf.

Richard was a fortunate man to have been married not once but twice. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Beverly Buehler Freeouf, the mother of his children whom he was married to for a happy 35 years. Several years later, he met and married his lovely wife Lois Kirchhoff Freeouf that he got to spend a blessed 24 years with before her passing. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Freeouf and his sister Gracie Wagner.

The family has entrusted Heartland Cremation and Burial Society in Raytown, Missouri with the arrangements. Visitation will be 5-7pm, Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 700 NE Chipman Rd, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64063. Burial in Memorial Park, Kansas City, Missouri.

Richard’s life will be celebrated and remembered for the profound impact he had on those around him. His legacy of resilience, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.
