Rebeccah “Bec” Pennington
May 9, 1980 – June 21, 2024
Rebeccah “Bec” Abigail (Scarbrough) Pennington was born May 9, 1980, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Ronald Dean and Teresa (Dickey) Scarbrough. On June 19, 2024, she was walking in her neighborhood, as was her custom, picking up trash as she went, when she was struck by a motor vehicle. Her death was pronounced at Research Medical Center on June 21, 2024.
Left behind are her husband of 25 years Jon Ryon Pennington, Raytown, Missouri, daughter Caitlin “Kat” Rosalie Pennington, Gladstone, Missouri, son Xander Howard Michael Pennington of the home, daughter Erin Chavi Pennington also of the home, her parents, Ron and Teresa (Dickey) Scarbrough, Centerview, Missouri, parents-in-law Kim and Vickie (Ryon) Pennington, Raytown, Missouri, sister Dr. Ami Joy Wyatt-Scarbrough, Houma, Louisiana, sister Rachael (Scarbrough) Freeman, Fall River, Massachusetts, brother Robert Jaydrale Williams, Lincoln, Nebraska, brother Joseph Isaac Scarbrough, Centerview, Missouri, foster sister Yaarah (Sylvia Sue) Partridge, Overland Park, Kansas, and grandmother Edwina (Corson) Scarbrough, Van Buren, Arkansas. Preceding her to glory are grandparents Dr. Quincy C. and Rosalie (Wallace) Dickey, and grandfather Clarence F. Scarbrough. Also grieving are many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and, literally, hundreds of beloved friends.
Bec was brilliant, fearless, bold & snarky, yet kind & empathetic, colorful, loyal, an impeccable and amazing dancer, bubbling over with creative talent that she expressed in an enormous variety of ways: Designer/dressmaker, carpenter, hanger of drywall, washer and dryer repair technician, builder of the Frankenstove, singer, dancer, painter, collector of shoes in every color and hats. She wore her inside on the outside as evidenced by her self-designed and handmade vintage era clothing and colorful hair. As a researcher she was the best, and a gifted teacher both as a dance instructor and homeschool mom to her 3 children. Although Bec despised talking on the phone, she daily kept in touch with her friends and family on various social media platforms and was an invaluable customer service representative for Big T Tents.
Bec believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, was baptized at age 12 by her Grandpa Quincy, and effectively defended her faith and her expression of it by a vast knowledge of the Word of God.
At her eighth grade homeschool graduation, sister Ami Joy introduced her to Jon, who became the love of her life. They married October 1, 1999, in President Truman’s historic courtroom, Independence, Missouri, Courthouse, in the presence of their parents.
A Celebration of Life party will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, 6:00pm – 10:00pm, at Belton Memorial Station, 602 Maurer Parkway, Belton, Missouri. Words cannot begin to express the enormous loss those who love her are and will continue to experience as we learn to live without her beautiful presence in our lives.
A lovely tribute of a truly lovely and unique person. Completely shocked and heartbroken for this loss. Peace and love to all.
Beautifully said and love the photo of her. I am so sorry for your families loss of a great person. Prayers going up for all of you.
She radiated joy! Each interaction brought me giggles and eye opening appreciation to her depth. A tragedy to lose her, but I am rejoicing, knowing she is with Jesus!
Beautiful words, for an absolutely beautiful woman. This one hurts… She will be missed very deeply and never forgotten. Love you Bec !
Though I didn’t know BEC I cried reading her obituary being one of a person who should not have left this world at the hands of a driver whose punishment shall be known soon.
I hear her laugh (or fiendish cackle if the mood was right!) in my mind’s memory. Oh! How much she laughed. The world will miss that exuberance. 😢 Much love from our clan to yours.
I did not know you Bec but I know how much you meant to Ami. You sound like an amazing young woman who was definitely loved by many. I would have loved to have had the opportunity to have met you. I know you will be missed by your loved ones. I am truly sorry for your family and this worlds loss.
Our hearts are broken as we grieve with you. Jon I want so badly just to give you a hug. There are no words for a situation such as this.
What a beautiful tribute! It’s been more than 25 years, but I’ll never forget how exquisitely she danced, her sharp, witty humor and donned some accessory that no one else could pull off.
