Lawrence (Larry) Eugene McGee, 83, Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather entered the presence of his Lord on the morning of August 12, 2024.
Larry passed peacefully with his family at his side after a brief battle with Sarcoma (cancer). Larry’s desire and prayer for his wife, Judy, of 63 years was to be cared for and provided for after his passing was honored.
Larry was born on July 2, 1941, in Battle Creek, Michigan to John and Mildred (Davis) McGee. Larry was the second of three sons. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Mildred, his older brother Ken McGee and younger brother Dick McGee. Larry is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Judith Marie McGee (Stipe). Judy was at Larry’s side through his illness to comfort and assist in caring for him and was at his side as he passed. Other survivors include his two sons, John (Carole) McGee and David (JoEllen) McGee, his grandchildren, Lynnette McGee, Leanne McGee, Josiah (Rebecah) McGee, Isaac McGee and Micah McGee, Naomi McGee, great-grandchildren Gideon and Matthias along with multiple nieces and nephews.
Larry grew up in the small town of Hickory Corners, Michigan. His family attended Hickory Corners Methodist Church. He put his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at a Bible club at his school as a teenager. He spent the rest of his life living out his faith. After graduating high school, he attended Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music. He met Judy there and they soon were dating. They married on August 12, 1961.
Larry and Judy lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan where they raised their sons and attended Open Bible Church. Larry has worked several jobs over the years, including as a short-order cook, truck driver, ice salesman, property manager, maintenance supervisor, and general handyman. Larry used his skills to not only work on his home but also to assist friends, neighbors, and the church.
Larry loved to spend time with his sons, camping, fishing, hunting, and roughhousing with them on the living room floor. Both sons attended Bible college where they met and married their wives. As grandchildren came, Larry loved to spend time with them. This did not happen as often as Larry liked as both sons had moved to Kansas City, Missouri.
In 2002 Larry and Judy moved to Kansas City to be close to their family. Larry worked several years at Calvary Bible College heading up the maintenance department and loved spending time with his grandchildren. They found a church home with Word of Grace Fellowship Church (Blue Ridge Bible Church) where they faithfully attended. As Larry’s health declined, they remained faithful in attending online from home.
Larry’s favorite verse was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse was a comfort and encouragement to Larry through the many physical challenges he faced in his later years.
Larry was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, committed to making Christ the center of his life and the life of his family. He was active within the church, often spearheading work and maintenance projects. Larry was an example of living a Christ-centered life for which his family will always be grateful. We thank God for Larry and know he ran the race of a good and faithful servant.
Visitation will be Monday, August 19th at 10:00 AM at Word of Grace Fellowship, 11950 State Route 350, Raytown, MO 64138. A celebration of life service will follow at the church at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Word of Grace Fellowship Church or Calvary University.
So sorry for your family’s lost. But as we know, it was his time to be with our Lord!
And we must be happy for him, at this time.

I was surprised and saddened to hear of this, Judy and family.
Our memories of him were from back at Open Bible church in Grand Rapids Mi. He was very involved in that church also…a servant.
May God give you all peace as you learn to live life without him… until you meet again!

To our dear Judy, pastor Dan and I are so very sorry for your loss. We have been wondering how you two are doing as we haven’t seen any posts on Facebook recently. This is a real shock to us as I’m sure it is to all of you as well. Larry leaves quite the Godly legacy and we were very privileged and honored to have served the Lord with both of you. Be assured of our prayers and our love for you.
Sending my prayers to you Judith. The Lord is faithful to walk with the widow. I’ll be praying. I am remembering our days at GRSBM Ladies suite. Praise God for the many years of service for his Savior.

I grew up in Open Bible Church, remembering Larry leading worship. Some of my first babysitting jobs were for the McGee’s sons John and David. Wow, so long ago!

Dear Judy, my sweet big sister, how my heart aches for you and the family right now. I’m praying for you and will continue in the days to come. This huge change and loss is probably the most difficult one of your life, but our precious loving Shepherd will carry you through and eventually reunite you with Himself and with Larry.
