Terrance Laird, 66, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri departed from this world on December 22, 2024. Terry was born on December 19, 1958, and raised in Raytown, Missouri. After attending CMSU, Terry began a career with the Social Security Administration and later moved to Lee’s Summit. In addition to the SSA, Terry served for over 20 years in what he referred to as his “fun job” as a Sergeant for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. He also provided private security, mostly at Sheffield Family Life Center and for the Kansas City Chiefs. He was both proud and honored to protect and serve the Chiefs Kingdom for so many years.
Terry married Diana Talbert in 1982 and they went on to have four children: Adam, Tina, Tara, and Erik. He loved being a dad, and worked hard to create good memories with them. He enjoyed taking them to theme parks and mastered the art of carnival games, filling shelves in the basement with stuffed animal prizes. Terry also loved taking his kids to the lake house in the summer and teaching them to fish, tube, and set off fireworks. He enjoyed traveling with his family as well, especially to warm places like Florida, California, and Mexico.
Terry was a deeply beloved father, husband, brother, and friend. He was a rock to many, and a trusted advisor who could work through any problem. It didn’t matter what time it was, he would drop what he was doing to help those he loved. Terry was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage. Many will remember him as a constant goof ball, or big teddy bear. He was full of love for those around him, and was always doing or saying something to put a smile on their faces.
In 2017, Terry retired and spent his days with his family watching old movies and listening to music. He enjoyed being a grandfather to four young children and playing frisbee with his yellow lab, Sunny. Even in his final years as his health declined, he continued to protect and serve those around him.
Terry was preceded to Heaven by his father Richard, and mother Flo Jean. He is survived by his wife and four children, four grandchildren, sister Donna, and brother Tim. We invite you to share your stories of Terry so that we can hold them in our hearts as we remember our beloved father, husband, and brother.
Visitation will be 10am, followed by funeral services at 11am, Monday, December 30, 2024 at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, Missouri 64133. Interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
