Roger B. Hawver, 74, of North Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the North Kansas City Hospital, with his children by his side. He was born December 20, 1949, in Stafford, Kansas, to Earl L. Hawver and Gertrude (Titus) Hawver.
Roger grew up in Stafford and graduated from Stafford High School in 1968. He continued his education at York College, St. Mary's of the Plains, and Kansas Wesleyan University. After working in the cattle industry for many years, Roger moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1988 to pursue a career in coaching and teaching. He spent the last 33 years of his career employed by the North Kansas City School District before retiring in 2023.
Roger maintained a lifelong love and appreciation of athletics, beginning with playing baseball as a boy, then basketball in high school and college, followed by slo-pitch softball throughout his adult life, as well as coaching several sports. He instilled a similar love in his children, leading to childhood, high school, college, and adult athletic careers of their own. He was his children’s most demanding coach but always their biggest fan. Roger enjoyed watching various sporting events, whether in person or on television, a pastime shared with his children. It was rare for one of their telephone calls to end without a lively conversation inevitably involving sports.
He is survived by: daughter, Ashley Hawver Duncan, of Wichita, Kansas; son, Cole (Sarah) Hawver; grandsons, Maxwell and Franklin Hawver, all of Manhattan, Kansas. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated father, a doting and proud Papa Roger, and a genuinely good and kind man, always ready and willing to help others.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Hawver Duncan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Kansas City, Missouri, and Stafford, Kansas. To obtain future service information, please continue to visit this website.
Roger was a wonderful cousin. I enjoyed my time I had with him. I will miss him but will remember our times together.
