Nathan Robert Melton, 46, of Wathena, Kansas, passed away January 11, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born January 2, 1980, to Rodney and Nancy Melton in Chillicothe, Missouri. He lived most of his life in the Braymer/Mooresville, Missouri area, graduating from Southwest High School in Ludlow in 1998.
He moved to Wathena, Kansas six years ago and quickly fell in love with the First Baptist Church family and the men’s group, The Iron Men. Nathan was also a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, where he loved going to the bike shows, drag races and hill climbs. Nathan was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and anything with the outdoors. He most loved watching his nieces and nephews in sports, livestock shows and loved horses and rodeos.
Nathan loved his “First” church family in Chillicothe, at the First Baptist Church, where he was baptized. When he moved, he found his last church family at First Baptist Church of Wathena. Nathan loved and was loved by many.
Survivors include his parents Larry and Nancy Hudgins; and Rodney Melton (Julie); brother Austin McBee and his wife Joni; stepsiblings Jason, Dan and Chris Hudgins, Andrea Smith and Heather Singleton. He is also survived by niece McKenzie McBee and nephew Corbin McBee, along with many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10am, Friday, January 16, 2026, followed by funeral services at 11am, at First Baptist Church of Wathena, 407 N. 3rd St, Wathena, Kansas 66090. Graveside service will be held at 2:30pm, in Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Wathena.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wathena Health and Rehab, especially John and Destiny, for their love and care for Nathan.
Nathan we are gonna miss ya brother. I know you will be up there fishing and deer hunting. Until we meet again brother

Always nice to talk with you or on Facebook about hunting fishing or whatever God has gained another angel sending prayers to all the family
Sad day for us all. You carried yourself with grace and honor. Now you can wish and hunt all you want. Thank you brother we we got it from here.
