Carmel Ann Marie (Champon) Marion, 63 years old, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on March 8, 2026, of pancreatic cancer, in the loving arms of her husband. Carmel was born on December 10, 1962, in Teaneck, New Jersey, the daughter of Mary (Levering) and Bernard Champon. Carmel graduated from Cresskill Highschool in New Jersey, then went to college at Montclair State of New Jersey, earning a degree in Art Education. She went on to work in the decorating department for Seventeen Magazine in New York City.
Carmel married John F. “Cub” Marion III on March 7, 1987, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Tenafly, New Jersey. Married for 39 years, the two had a marriage characterized by unconditional love and commitment to the other. They have four children, Weston, Brennan, Griffin, and Lauren, and a grandson Roman.
Carmel’s love of decorating and the arts came through in every home they lived in over the years. She knew how to make a home really feel like home.
Carmel and her husband Cub are parishioners at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas. Remaining to cherish are Cub, children Weston and wife Mandy (Schroeder), Brennan, Griffin, Lauren (Marion) and husband Mitch Slavens, their son Roman, and siblings Charles Champon, Colette (Champon) Dewald, Richard Champon, Mary (Champon) Drobinko, Mark Champon, John Champon, Edouard Champon, and Michael Champon.
Preceding Carmel in death are her parents Mary (Levering) and Benard Champon, brothers Bernard (Bernie) Champon, Louis Champon, Albert Champon, Philip Champon, Gerard Champon, Thomas Champon, brother in-law Lawrence Dewald, and Carmel’s daughter in-law Jennifer (Largent) Marion.
Rosary will be held at 12:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. on March 14, 2026, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS, officiated by Father Jamie Zarse. Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. (March 14th) at TBD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be put in an envelope with checks being made out to Sacred Heart Church.
