William Benjamin “Bill” Sherman

William Benjamin “Bill” Sherman
March 24, 1948 – March 7, 2026

William “Bill” Benjamin Sherman, 78, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2026, at 8:49 a.m., surrounded by love, with his daughter by his side and his wife holding his hand.

Bill had a deep love for music and spent many cherished years as a pianist and singer in a rock ‘n’ roll band. Gifted with perfect pitch and a beautiful voice, music was always close to his heart.

A lifelong traveler, Bill found joy in the journey as much as the destination. During his years as a semi-truck driver, he traveled across the United States, logging an estimated three million miles. Even in his personal life, his idea of a vacation was seeing how many miles he could put on the car. He especially loved the mountains and the peace of a simple life, never needing much to be content.

Bill made it a point to visit National Parks whenever he could, rarely passing one if it was within a day’s drive. He loved the outdoors and embraced activities like swimming, boating, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, and long walks through parks. He also enjoyed exploring museums and admiring historic architecture.

Known as a gentle giant, Bill expressed his love through warm hugs and unwavering protection of his family. His kindness, strength, and quiet joy will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Regina M. Sherman; daughter, Dr. Syrece K. Sherman; son-in-law, Bryan T. Hall; grandson, Brandyss Sherman-Hall; sister, Patricia Mayo of Idaho; nephew, Kevin Mayo of Texas; and his faithful dog, Corkey.

To Dad: So many happy memories, dancing on your toes in the living room, fishing, gardening, talking about life and big safe hugs. I will cherish them all. Thank you for everything. -your loving daughter, Syrece

To Uncle Bill: who taught the family the value of nature, mountain hikes and classic rock music. You always cared about other and how they are doing. You never made the discussion about yourself. One of your best attributes was being a great listener. Thank you for the loving memories. -Kevin
