Edgar James Breda Sr., age 94, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on March 19, 2026. Edgar was born on July 21, 1931, to Joseph Breda and Marzelie Tauzin Breda in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Edgar graduated from St. Mary’s High School in May 1948, and attended Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He then went to work as a clerk and mail carrier at the Natchitoches Post Office. Edgar was drafted into the United States Army on November 9, 1951, and served in the Army for 2 years. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to his job at the Post Office.
He married the love of his life, Ann Vercher, on September 5, 1955, a marriage which endured for 70 years until his passing. Throughout their marriage, they shared a passion for playing bridge, which continued until recently.
In March 1959, Edgar was promoted to a position with the Postal Inspection Service. As a field inspector with the Postal Inspection Service, he helped train 15 new inspectors. He was promoted to a mail fraud assignment in November 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri. He presented many cases to grand juries in Muskogee, Oklahoma and Kansas City. All of the cases he presented resulted in indictments and further prosecution. His biggest mail fraud case resulted in indictments of 25 people, with 18 pleading guilty and 7 going to trial, all with convictions of mail fraud.
Edgar was an outstanding athlete as a youth, playing basketball and baseball. He enjoyed coaching his sons in little league basketball and baseball, and 3&2 baseball, and watching his kids and grandkids in sporting and other events. Later in life, he found a passion for golf and played countless rounds at the Unity Village Golf Course. He enjoyed working at the Unity Golf Course as a golf marshal until he retired at age 90.
Out of everything he did, Edgar was most proud of his family. His marriage with Ann produced 4 children and 7 grandchildren. In sum, the members of his family have been married for 220 years. He was the clear leader of his family and was a tremendous role model for his family in setting goals, working hard, and being a good and successful person.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marzelie Breda, siblings Theophile Breda, Emil Breda, Clyde Breda, Joy Miller, Marie West, and Harry Breda. He is survived by his wife, Ann Vercher Breda; sister Doris Carter; children Brenda Grimme (husband Al), Edgar Breda Jr. (wife Kelly), Keith Breda (wife Karen), and Kim Bushek (husband David); grandchildren Kasey Breda, Kyle (Clare) Breda, Connor (Jess) Breda, Sammie (Matt) Hopwood, Abby (Louie) Sandt, Amelia Bushek, and Roman Bushek; and many nieces and nephews.
