Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Robert Ray Smith Jr., 34, lovingly known as Bobby, was born in Jacksonville, Florida, the youngest child and only son of Karen Elaine Reaves and Robert “Ray” Smith. He grew up in Excelsior Springs and Kansas City, Missouri, where his personality, humor, and loyalty left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Bobby leaves three sisters Kristin Schoonover, Savannah & Hayley Smith of Missouri and one brother, Jesse Smith of Florida. He was the proud father of his children Kyrie Welch of Kansas, Landon Butter of Kansas, Robert Ray Smith, III “Bo,” Skylin Harper Rae Smith and Amya Marie Lynn Fordyce of Belton, Missouri. His children were an important part of his life and his legacy lives on through them. Growing up, Bobby was especially close with his cousins, sharing relationships with them that felt more like siblings than extended family. He leaves behind Keith Claus of Belton, Kian Reaves of Freeman, Seth-Thomas Reaves of New York, Kailha Flowerree of Independence, and Grace Fonseca of Belton.
Bobby had a presence that was impossible to ignore. He could light up a room with his smile, his humor, and his gift for making people laugh. Known as one of the best jokesters among his friends and family, Bobby had a way of lifting the spirits of those around him. He was fiercely loyal and protective of the people he loved, and if someone needed help, Bobby would do everything he could to be there for them.
Like many of us, Bobby faced challenges along the way and at times lost sight of the path in front of him. But he never lost sight of hope, or of the life he wanted to build. The love he shared, the laughter he brought, and the memories he created will remain with those who knew him forever.
There are truly no words that can fully express the depth of love for Bobby, or the pain and loss felt by those whose lives he touched. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his spirit, his humor, and his love will always remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Services for Bobby will be Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 10am at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, Missouri 64133.
I am so deeply sorry for your family. Karen, you are always in my prayers.
I’m so so sorry Karen for the loss of your child. My love and prayers are with you and your family as you navigate this journey.
Karen I am so sorry for this terrible tragedy. I will be praying for you and your family as you navigate this loss.
I love you BooRay.
I love you so much, Bobby. All this seems just so unreal. I cannot imagine a world where you’re not in it. You are so funny and loving and kind. I am so angry the man who did this… At the people who were involved. Bobby, I promise I will never give up seeking justice for you.

I miss you booface
A man and a family I have never had the opportunity to know. Another cousin that I have been denied the pleasure of meeting and knowing. I have met his mother only once. I offer my thoughts and prayers to all the family.
Sorry for your loss. Bobby with a smile always and very respectful.
I will miss you so incredibly much Bobby. I love you.
I have loved you since before you were born. You are my handsome son. I just can’t believe I’ll never see your handsome face, feel one of your hugs or hear you tell me you love me ever again. The day you passed I wanted to go with you so bad. I will get the closest to justice I can for you. Then I’ll be waiting to join you. Til we see each other again.
The first woman to love you and hold you,
Mom
My baby boy will forever be 34. I promise you Bobby before Mom is with you!
