Valerie Hall, born April 9, 1948 in Ponca City, Oklahoma went home to be with Jesus on April 24, 2026. Known for her contagious smile, gentle backrubs, and servant’s heart, Valerie was a friend to everyone she met.
Growing up in Ponca City, she spent her summers swimming at Conoco, playing flute for the Ponca City High Band, working at the Poncan movie theater and enjoying Lake Ponca with family and friends. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1966. While earning a degree in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University, she married Charles Hall. After teaching briefly, she found her true calling in motherhood after the birth of their son, Brett, in Tulsa.
The family later moved to St. Louis where Kristen was born. Valerie lived here for over 45 years. She took great pride in the home where she raised their children, especially the screened-in porch she built with her father. It became her “happy place”-a spot for reading, enjoying nature, and sharing time with friends, neighbors and family.
She was an amazing mom to Brett and Kristen. She juggled a full time job while parenting two very involved kids all while making it look easy. She loved being a mom and was forever grateful for her friends that helped along the way.
Valerie was happiest surrounded by family and friends. She cherished time with her four granddaughters. She maintained a remarkably close, supportive friendship with Charles and his wife, Jeannie; a testament to her kind and inclusive nature. She had a love of sports and never missed Brett or Kristen’s games or matches, often working early to be there for the first pitch or serve. She loved the Cardinals, Chiefs and Jayhawks, but above all loved the community that sports brought together.
An adventurer at heart, Valerie continued her annual family lake tradition and only missed two throughout her lifetime before moving to Kansas City in 2023. She traveled the world including two mission trips to Honduras. She cherished her Saturday night outings, camping, lake weekends and yearly Mexico trips with her dear friends.
In retirement, Valerie dedicated herself to the Bonhomme Presbyterian Church through her Wild Wednesday bible study, Alpha nights, and serving in any way. She truly had a servant’s heart and was blessed by the church community. Her final years were spent in Kansas City at Prairie Elder Care. Despite her battle with Alzheimer’s, she served as the “Fun Team Coordinator”, volunteering in a kindergarten classroom, enjoying walks around the garden, feeding the fish, and bringing joy to the fellow residents, staff and families until the very end.
Valerie was greatly loved as a nana, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend to all. She is survived by her son, Brett (Kim) Hall of Eureka, MO; granddaughters Reagan and Addison, daughter Kristen Younger (Eric) and granddaughters Claire and Lauren, dear friends Charles and Jeannie Hall (Leawood), Nephew Jason (Michelle) Hamilton of Greenwood, MO and great nephews Corbin and Cohen and great niece Ella, the extended Burrow/Coburn family and her dearest St. Louis friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Helen Dick (Ponca City, OK), sister Marsha Hamilton (Lee’s Summit, MO), and Joan Dick (Bedford, Texas) who was a blessing to all of our family for 33 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Friday, May 29, at 12:00 PM at Bonhomme Presbyterian Church, 14820 Conway Rd, Chesterfield, MO 63017, with a Lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bonhomme Alpha.
