Matthew Castonguay

It is with immeasurable sorrow that we announce our beautiful boy, Matthew Castonguay, was called home to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 7, 2026, at the tender age of 21.

Matthew entered this world on a Tuesday afternoon in 2005 as a radiant beacon of light, illuminated with a palpable spirit of purity, calm, goodness, peace, and love.

Being born as the youngest of the children, each five years apart, Matthew was very blessed with the gift of two amazing brothers who loved him dearly. His brothers brought an endless twinkle to his eyes, always sparkling, as a result of the laughter, comfort, and joy each one brought into his daily life.

Connor, the eldest, naturally took on the roles of “the protector,” “the giver,” and “the teacher,” often by Matthew’s side during his infant and toddler years.

Jackson, being that he was the middle child, instilled the courage to be a daredevil, striving to become fearless and push the limits in life in the pursuit of making the most of each day, as they made priceless childhood memories in their brotherly endeavors.

It seemed like overnight when Matthew was scaling 15-foot trees in the backyard, doing “donuts” and “wheelies” in the driveway as best he could on a Fisher Price Power Wheel John Deere “Gator,” and able to hold his own during their Super Soaker water guns fights in the days of summer.

As the next few years went on, Matthew quickly developed an analytical view of this world and desperately wanted to know how everything in it “worked.” About pre-school age, he became a human repository practically overnight, full of technical facts, figures, data, dates etc. We think it made him feel empowered to have learned all this knowledge.

From that point on, anything that was fiction had become extinct in his eyes. Dr. Seuss and Disney could take a flying leap for all he cared! Our weekly trips to the library were spent entirely in the children’s non-fiction section, until he had all his favorite books memorized almost verbatim, as his movie/video home collection had become stacks of nothing but age-appropriate documentaries – from tractors, to Firemen & Police Officers (K-9 Unit included), and all branches of our US Military Service. It’s no wonder that his brilliant mind found Physics to be his favorite course in high school and college.

As Matthew was becoming a young adult, he also became a very dedicated employee in the two jobs he held throughout his high school and college careers. His loyalty and unmatched work ethic earned him tremendous respect from all his co-workers.

This Spring, he began his journey to become a paramedic. He chose this path because he wanted to help others in their greatest hour of need.

Matthew loved cars, fascinated by the engine technology as well as the designs of exotic cars. There wasn’t a car on the road that he couldn’t immediately call out by name, likely recite all the “specs,” and tell you how to fix it too.

He also loved aviation and going to air shows to see the technology in flight and to hear the sounds of the fighter jets as they flew by.

Matthew loved being with his friends. He loved being in nature, walking, hiking, snowboarding, and gazing at the mountain views.

Naturally, as Matthew became a young adult, he was also becoming his own person, learning to navigate through life. He was admired and respected by all those who knew him, but he was seldom quiet. He loved to talk (we eventually dubbed him “Chatterbox”)!

He was a loyal friend, almost to a fault, during both the good times and the bad. Matthew would speak his mind, and it always came from the heart. He had an infectious laugh that was so loud at times, it would echo through the hallways.

Matthew was beyond sweet, patient, and kind. He was selfless. He was strong, adventurous, and courageous. He always put on a brave face and never showed fear, and even if trying something new that may have intimidated or scared him a little, you couldn’t tell because he faced life with ALL he had… unless the water was cold!

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Wade and Nadyne Castonguay; maternal grandfather Matthew Swain, Sr.

Survivors include his father Mark Castonguay and fiancée Danielle Tubbs; mother Virginia and Daniel Vazzano; brothers Connor and Jackson Castonguay; maternal grandmother Sandra Swain; paternal uncle Richard Castonguay; paternal aunt Yvette and uncle Kevin Meyer; and maternal uncle Matthew and aunt Lori Swain.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12pm, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th St, Leawood, Kansas 66209. Memorial contributions in Matthew’s memory may be made to The Jed Foundation of Mental Health for Teenagers and Young Adults, https://jedfoundation.org/donate/
