Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Sara Kathryn Wallace Mick, 67, of Prairie Village, Kansas, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of June 19, 2026, only hours after celebrating her 67th birthday.
Born on June 18, 1959, in St. Joseph, Missouri, she was the daughter of Edwin and Joan Wallace, who preceded her in death.
Sara graduated from Central High School in 1977 and married her high school sweetheart, Clark Spangler, that same year. As a military spouse, she soon joined Clark in Italy, where they lived for several years. Eventually, they settled in Des Moines, Iowa, where they remained until their marriage ended and they went their separate ways.
Sara continued to make her home in Des Moines, where she built a career, married Larry Mick, and started a family. In later years, she became the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, whom she loved fiercely and cared for deeply. Her children and grandchildren were truly the lights of her life.
Sara also treasured the friendships she built throughout her life, whether they spanned decades or only a short time. She was outspoken, to say the least, and never afraid to share her thoughts and opinions. Her loving and caring nature drew people to her, and her love for children was unmatched.
Sara has been cremated, and there are no services planned at this time.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her brothers, Ed Wallace Jr. and William Wallace; and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her daughters, Shannon (David) Wallace and Kelly Mick; her grandchildren, Sophia, Noah, Katie, Silas, Karson, Karter, and Kenzley; her sister, Susan (Cary) Valentine; her nieces, Cara (Alex) Campbell and Carli Valentine; and numerous other relatives and dear friends. Special thanks and appreciation to Richard Magoon, a person close to Sara’s heart these last few years.
Rest in peace my dear friend I’m going to miss you love Eva k
Condolences to Sara’s family and friends and especially Richard Magoon, who had a special place in his heart for Sara. RIP Sara.
