Everette P. Dewey, 92, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026. He was born on September 17, 1933, to Turner Dewey and Ethel Pollard Dewey.
Everette was the youngest and last surviving child in a family of five. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Truman Dewey and Lloyd Dewey; and his sisters, Cozette Dewey and Blanche Dewey; and daughter, Cheryl.
He attended R.T. Coles School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Kansas City, where he was active in the ROTC and the school band. A talented trumpet player, Everette had a lifelong love of music. He was also a gifted artist who enjoyed painting, with a particular admiration for eagles, which often inspired his artwork.
Following high school, Everette proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force at Whiteman Air Force Base. During the Korean War, he served alongside fellow servicemen as part of a Ranger unit.
After returning home from military service, Everette married and was blessed with two children, Cheryl and Andre.
Everette dedicated his career to protecting and serving others. He began working in the Security Department for the Kansas City, Missouri, School District before joining the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, where he served in several divisions throughout his law enforcement career. He retired in 2001 after many years of faithful public service.
Known for his warm spirit and kind heart, Everette’s goal was to spread safety, happiness, and encouragement wherever he went. He especially loved celebrating his birthday and the Christmas season. One of his favorite sayings was, “You got that right,” a phrase that will forever bring smiles to those who knew and loved him.
Everette is lovingly survived by his wife, Deloris; son, Andre; six grandchildren; five nieces; two nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; his beloved dog, Ranger, whom he dearly loved; and many cherished friends.
Everette’s legacy of service, kindness, creativity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Love and peace to all.
