Lois Marie Lindemann

Lois Marie Lindemann (née Grandy), 75, died peacefully in her sleep on September 17, 2025, at her new home of Overland Park, Kansas shortly after relocating from Memphis to be closer to family.

Lois was born in Lackawanna, NY to Eleanor Marie and Leo Anthony Grandy Jr., and was eventually joined by four more sisters – Lynne, Linda, Lari, and Lauren.

She was a free spirit in her youth, her adventures ranging from attending the original Woodstock music festival in Bethel, NY to briefly living in an intentional community in Key West, FL.

Lois met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Lindemann, while they were both in Fredonia, NY. They were married in the backyard of her parents’ Depew home, and they lived in New York City for several years with their son Jeremy before Bob’s work in hospitality soap manufacturing moved them to New Jersey, Ohio, and finally Memphis, Tennessee. By then, another son, Jamie and daughter, Katie were also a part of their growing family.

While Lois was a stay-at-home mother for much of her children’s youth, she still found ample time to indulge her hobbies, which included gardening, needlepoint, sewing and reading. She could always be found planting flowers and vegetables in her backyard, making Halloween costumes for her kids, stitching elaborate wall art for their bedrooms, and devouring endless stacks of novels from her bedside table. This passion for reading also extended to her children’s school libraries, where Lois and Bob would often donate Caldecott Medal and Newbery Medal winning titles for future students to enjoy.

Lois had a deep love of animals and nature, which was evident from her care of her own cats and dogs over the years to her memberships in such organizations as the ASPCA and World Wildlife Fund. Nature documentaries were among her favorite shows to watch, and she instilled in her children a deep respect for the natural world.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Eleanor and Leo, and her sister Lynne. She is survived by her sisters Linda, Lari, and Lauren, her children Jeremy (Sam), Jamie (Alli) and Katie (Jordan), her grandchildren Dasche, Elisa and Eva, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lois was selflessly devoted to her husband Bob for 50 years. They were preparing to move out of Memphis to spend the rest of their retirement surrounded by family. Lois passed less than two months after Bob, unwilling to leave his side even in the afterlife.

No service is planned at this time. A celebration of life is being planned in Florida for July 2026 for both Lois and Bob, as per their wishes, as it was the setting of so many of their favorite summer vacations as a family over the years.
