Gabriela “Gabby” Maurer

Gabriela “Gabby” Maurer, a sweet, loving, and resilient young woman, passed away far too soon on August 15, 2026, leaving a profound and lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Born with a gentle spirit and an unshakable strength, Gabby entered the foster care system at just nine years old. Her life changed in January 2025 when she came to live with Randy and Carmen Maurer, who welcomed her with open arms and unwavering love. After a year and a half of dedication, hope, and healing, Gabby’s adoption was joyfully finalized on July 17, 2025, marking the beginning of her forever family.

Gabby overcame many of the challenges of her early years through the unconditional support of her family and friends. Her compassion was boundless, especially toward animals. Horses held a special place in her heart, and she dreamed of becoming a vet tech so she could spend her days caring for animals in need. A talented artist, Gabby expressed herself beautifully through her drawings, and she delighted in baking sweet treats to share with those she loved.

Like many teenagers, Gabby found joy in simple pleasures—swimming, roller skating, watching YouTube videos (especially Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and playing video games like Minecraft and Roblox. She was known for her warm hugs and affectionate nature, always eager to show love in the most genuine ways.

Though her time on earth was heart-breaking short, Gabby’s memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness, creativity, and joyful spirit. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and the beauty of a life that, though brief, was deeply meaningful.

Gabriela is survived by her parents Randy and Carmen Maurer; grandparents Steve and Linda Mercer; uncle and aunt Joe and Holly McCown; cousin Madison; along with several other aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 19, 2026, at VFW Post 7397, 9550 Pflumm Rd, Lenexa, KS 66215, beginning at 4pm.

Randy/Carmen – while I didn’t know Gabby directly, it was a thrill to be able to see you extending your home making such a loving and generous impact on her life. Clearly she loved you back and that is such a treasure in itself. It’s heartbreaking that her time on Earth was so short but what a lucky young lady she was to be blessed with you both as her parents. You made a difference in her young life – no act is more loving than that. Blessings to you all….
