Carl Clifton Wallace

Carl Clifton Wallace, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 31, 2026, at the age of 56.

Carl was born on June 22, 1970, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Patricia Wallace. He attended East High School, where he participated in band and ROTC, graduating with the Class of 1988. Following graduation, Carl began a career in the restaurant industry and spent nearly twenty years at Giovanni’s Deli in Gladstone, Missouri. During those years, he became an honorary member of the Liberto family and earned the nickname “Carlique,” a name that reflected the deep love and acceptance he found there.

Family was always at the center of Carl’s life. Growing up, he shared a special bond with his family, especially his many aunts, who loved him as one of their own. He even spent a period of time living with his Aunt Ginger, whose influence and support helped shape the person he would become.

From an early age, Carl was known as the class clown and the life of the party. Those qualities only grew stronger when he met his best friend, brother, and mentor, Darrell Recob. Together, Carl and Darrell were unforgettable—always finding adventure, laughter, and occasionally a little mischief wherever they went. During this chapter of his life, Carl lived with Darrell and his wife, Sherry, who lovingly embraced “Junior” and played an important role in helping shape the man he became.

In 2003, Carl became the proud father of his beloved daughter, Sara. The two shared a special bond and were truly two peas in a pod. Carl loved his daughter deeply and worked hard to be the father she deserved, always encouraging her to pursue her dreams and become the best version of herself.

Carl’s greatest love story began in 2006 when he met Melissa, the love of his life. They were united in marriage on May 7, 2011, at the Lake of the Ozarks. During their fifteen years together, they built a life filled with laughter, friendship, and adventure. They loved attending sporting events—especially Kansas City Chiefs games—traveling to Mexico, and spending time with the incredible friends who became family.

Carl possessed a rare gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. Known affectionately as “Good Time Carl,” he could make anyone feel welcome, valued, and included. You never quite knew what might happen when Carl was around, but one thing was certain—you would laugh, make memories, and have a wonderful time. If Carl loved you, you had a loyal friend, trusted confidant, and fierce defender for life.

As Carl’s health declined in recent years, he found immense comfort in his beloved fur babies: Gigi, Izzy, and Sophie. Their unconditional love, companionship, and countless snuggles brought him peace through long dialysis treatments and difficult hospital stays. They became a source of strength and joy, giving him comfort on even the hardest days.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Wallace, of the home; his daughter, Sara (Lee) of Overland Park, Kansas; his mother, Pat Yost (Bill) of Hamilton, Missouri; his father, Gary Sydenstricker (Bonnie) of Adrian, Missouri; his sisters, April Wells (Clint) of Raytown, Missouri, Kelley Cook (Matt) of Bethany, Missouri, and Kimberly Hendren (Nate) of Ridgeway, Missouri. He is also survived by thirteen cherished aunts and uncles, twelve nieces and nephews, two great-nieces, and countless friends who became family and will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Raytown, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. To watch the funeral service, click on LIVESTREAM.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that memorial contributions be made to Against All Odds Animal ResQ in Hamilton, Missouri, or to the American Diabetes Association.

Though his time here was far too short, Carl’s laughter, kindness, loyalty, and larger-than-life spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
