Michael Dean Ganaden

Michael Dean Ganaden, 81, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, surrounded by his sons and loving family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Missouri 64133. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 a.m.

Mike was born on March 20, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Glen and Opal (Smith) Ganaden. He grew up surrounded by family alongside his two brothers and sister and remained a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. He graduated from Lillis High School in 1963.

In 1968, Mike proudly joined the United States Army and served his country in Vietnam, earning three Bronze Stars for his courageous service. After returning home, he began a career in typesetting, working for many years at Western Typesetting before finishing his career at Spangler Graphics. He thoroughly enjoyed retirement and especially treasured the last 15 years spent doing the things he loved.

On May 25, 1985, Mike married the love of his life, Lynda. Together they shared more than 41 years of marriage filled with camping trips, travels across the country, and countless happy memories. The loss of Lynda on June 6, 2026, was deeply felt by Mike and those who knew them, as the two shared a devoted and inseparable bond. Mike had a special love for animals and always welcomed cats and dogs into his home. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and treasured the time he spent in the woods with his brothers, sons, and grandsons. Those hunting trips became more than a hobby; they were opportunities to share stories, laughter, and a lifelong bond with the family he loved so deeply.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynda; his parents, Glen and Opal; his brothers, Morris (Genny) and Robert; and his sister, Deloris (Tom).

He is survived by his sons, Jeff Ganaden and David (Patty) Ganaden; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Mike will be remembered for his quiet strength, his devotion to family, his love for his wife, his respect for nature, and the kindness he showed to both people and animals. He leaves behind many wonderful memories that will continue to be treasured by those who knew and loved him.

Many who knew Mike take comfort in knowing he is once again reunited with his beloved Lynda. While our hearts are heavy with loss, may the thought of them together again bring peace to all who loved them and remind us to lean on one another for strength, comfort, and support in the days ahead.
