In his younger days, Larry chased the thrill of the local arena, spending his time at the rodeo and riding bulls. That same love for the open road transitioned into a lifelong career as a semi-truck driver, hauling for multiple companies over the years and seeing the country from behind the wheel. When he wasn’t on the road, Larry could often be found with a guitar in his hands, enjoying a day of fishing, or turning wrenches on cars. Above all else, his greatest joy came from the simple moments spent with his children, his grandchildren, and his faithful companion, his dog Zyron.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Aaron Smoot and Sarah Claire Smoot, as well as many dear relatives and lifelong friends who went before him.
He leaves behind a loving legacy and is survived by his sister, Gerri Smith; his children, Derek Smoot and his wife Tracey, Roger Smoot and his wife Michealle, Eldon Smoot and his wife Elizabeth, and his adopted daughter, Roberta Derboven. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa Dalton, Logan “Chunky” Smoot, William Ellsworth, Zaden Smoot, and Alyna “Tatar” Smoot, along with many beloved nieces, extended family members, and close friends.
To honor his wishes and celebrate the life he lived, a celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
We were childhood friends,neighbors and friends to this day! Larry your no longer in pain, I will miss you my friend!

I knew Larry Wayne when he was young and stayed with him when his mother was in the hospital, He was always kind and thoughtful of others. He was willing to share anything he had. Larry and my son Brian was good friends. We did a lot of horse back riding together. When I moved back to this area, Larry showed me where his parents was buried and different ways about town. I got to visit him when he lived in the trailer park in Huntsville and when he was in the hospital at MU. I was at one time considered to be his Aunt because I was married to his uncle. He still claimed me as his Aunt. We talked about getting together over a barbecue. I regret not being able to meet his children before he left us. I will miss him but am glad he is no longer suffering.
Larry and I met through a mutual friend about 8 years ago. No matter what he was going through he was sure to check on me and keep me updated on his current circumstances. He was a fun, loving, caring man. He loved his kids, adopted kids, grands, friends and family dearly. He truly was one of a kind. He will truly be missed. Rest easy my friend.
