Steve Shirley

Steve Shirley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and Prince of Mischief (born June 30th, 1954) passed away on September 20th, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Growing up, Steve was active in scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and worked as a Scout Leader at Camp Nash. He was a graduate of Turner High School, class of 1972. He attended Kansas University and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi. He got his real estate license at 18, worked as a real estate agent and would continue on as an appraiser for 45+ years eventually opening his own business. He also worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman for 20+ years.

He and his wife, Carin, met at the age of 9 when he was quite literally ‘the boy across the street”. Steve loved his family and friends, vintage cars, good music, and being outside. Getting to spend the afternoon with those he cared about out by the pool was his favorite past time.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Berneta Shirley. He is survived by his Wife, Carin, his son Michael (Shannon), daughter Katelyn (Keith), grandchildren Ava, Lochlan, and Poppy, brother Dennis, and nieces and nephews (Amy & Tim, Alyssa & Mark, Destre, Justice, & Ashley).

We know he’s up in heaven riding bikes with Steve Potter. We love you and we’ll see you in our dreams, Poppo.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

At age 9 I met Carin and Steve as we all lived in Applewood Valley. Steve and the other neighborhood boys made bicycle ramps out of plywood to jump their bikes off of. Hours were spent at that vacant lot. Steve was one of the kindest person you could know. He always had that big smile. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
