Judith Hampton

Judith Hampton, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026 at 11am, at the age of 79. Born on August 29, 1947, Judith lived a life marked by kindness, compassion, and a deep love for the people around her.

Judith proudly served her country in the United States Air Force and was a veteran. After her military service, she devoted much of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant. The part of her career she treasured most was working with individuals facing mental challenges. Her compassion and patience allowed her to make a difference in the lives of those she cared for, and caring for others was simply part of who Judith was.

Those who knew Judith will remember her for her gentle heart, her warmth, and the love she so freely gave to her family and friends. She found joy in the simple things that made life meaningful. She loved to paint and had a deep appreciation for music, attending many concerts throughout her life. She was a devoted Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan, standing by her teams through every win and every loss.
Judith also showed her love through her kitchen. She baked many treats for the people she loved, including brownies and no-bake cookies, but her famous yeast rolls held a special place in her children’s hearts. Those familiar tastes, the smell of something baking, and the memories gathered around her table will remain precious reminders of her love.

More than anything, Judith loved her family. She had a way of making the people around her feel cared for and loved. Her family and friends will miss her presence, her laughter, her stories, and all the little moments that made having her in their lives so special.
Though her time with us has come to an end, Judith’s love will continue through the people she touched, the memories she created, and the family she loved so dearly. Every concert, every Royals or Chiefs game, every painting, and every batch of those beloved yeast rolls will carry a little piece of her with it.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Wilma Vaughn; her brothers, Stephen Vaughn, Michael Vaughn, and Rick Vaughn; and her beloved grandson, Nikita Martell.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts: her sister, Kris Peters; her son Jason and his wife, Barb Vaughn; her son Rob Hampton; and her daughter, Kristina Hampton. She is also survived by her nieces, Melissa Peters-Roberts, Heather Buck and her husband, Ty Buck, Chessa Vaughn, Raeanna Orozco, and Virginia Vaughn; her nephew, Jay and his wife, Andrea Cook; and her grandchildren, Sascha Martell, Montana Vaughn, Melissa Martell, and Elijah Gleason; along with many other family members and friends who were blessed to know and love her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

A small, private memorial service will be held in Judith’s remembrance on October 17 at 3:00 p.m.
