Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Nancy C. Thrower, 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on September 30th. She was born March 3, 1936 to Frank and Eleanor Mabry in Cape Girardeau, MO. Nancy grew up with her brother, Frank Jr. and her sister Joan in the small town of Charleston MO. You could often hear Nancy saying, “Charleston had it all!” Nancy loved to reminisce about her childhood and she loved to share stories and many pictures especially of her swimming and diving days.
After graduating High School in 1954, she married Larry Thrower in April of 1955. They settled in Columbia, MO and raised their family. Nancy enjoyed working at Suzanne’s, which was a popular women’s clothing store, and also at Gene Glenn’s Shoes both in downtown Columbia in the 60’s and 70’s. During these years she worked part time and raised her two sons: Dennis and Tim Thrower.
Among the joys of her life included welcoming her granddaughters: Katie, Jessie, and Carleigh in which she had many wonderful memories with them. She loved having these girls in her home and loved serving them simple meals, and playing dress up. They tagged along with Nancy wherever she went, even big trips to California. She also instilled in them a love for window shopping, thrift store shopping and estate sales, because she was always looking for a “good deal!” Nancy had a strong love for pets which included her childhood dog Friday, and a love of her Yorkies: Skip and Buddy.
During this time she also began a life long journey of studying the Bible. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1978. What drew her to this decision was her excitement about finding out that God had a personal name (Jehovah..Psalms 83:18), that he has a government that will be ruled by his son Jesus Christ (Daniel 2:44) and that his original purpose for the Earth to become a paradise will be established soon. She firmly believed in a future resurrection in which “all those in God’s memory will come out!” (John 5:28,29). She loved sharing Bible truths with others!
Proceeding Nancy in death were her parents, her loving sister Joan, her son Tim, and her husband Larry.
She is survived by: Her brother, Frank Mabry Jr.
Her son Dennis (Joy) Thrower, her granddaughters: Katie (Toby) Epstein, Jessica Thrower, Carleigh (Ryan) Preete, Step grandchildren: Jocelyn (Eli) Windsor, and Jackson (Jasmine) Becker. Her great grandchildren: Jonah, Dylan, Weston, Brooklyn, Miya, and Hazel. Her nieces Mary Lynn (David) Crader and Janet ( Randy)Reynolds, Sherry Mabry and nephew Neal Mabry.
If you knew and loved Nancy please join her family and close friends for her memorial services, on Saturday, October 17th at 1:00pm at the Kingdom Hall on Old Plank Rd.
“I hope that I will be remembered for my love and devotion to family and friends, for my strength of character and joyous heart. More than anything else, I want my family to improve by choosing righteousness over worldliness, making LOVE the motivating and sustaining force in their lives.” Nancy Thrower
