Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Ralph E. Pasley, 87, passed away October 16, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of deep family devotion, lifelong friendships, and a heart full of unconditional love.
Born on August 29, 1939, in Wheatland, Wyoming, Ralph was the sixth of seven children born to Ralph and Vera Pasley. When he was very young, his family moved to Roscoe, Missouri, to care for his ailing grandfather, James. The stories and memories from that family home remained close to his heart throughout his life. Shortly after, the family relocated just down the road to Osceola, Missouri, where his father managed the cattle at Uncle Clyde’s sale barn, and his mother cooked her famous Thursday meals for people who traveled from miles around. Though his older brothers stayed in Wyoming, the families frequently traveled back and forth, cementing Ralph’s lifelong love for his large, close-knit family.
In 1951, the Pasley family moved to the Northeast area of Kansas City, a place where Ralph truly thrived. His childhood home quickly became the neighborhood hangout, complete with baseball bats, footballs, and a coveted 1950s television. Just two blocks from Budd Park, Ralph could often be found waiting early in line to snag the perfect spot at the local swimming pool. His passion for sports extended to the bowling alley—where he proudly bowled scores of 290 and 271—and onto the baseball diamond. Ralph walked miles to practice, eventually excelling as a left fielder and earning a spot on the Kansas City All-Star team during his senior year at Northeast High School.
Following graduation, Ralph bought his prized possession: a red Ford convertible. He fiercely protected it from the handprints of his young nieces and nephews—Kevin, Marc, Bess, Pat, and Mike—always standing ready with a polishing cloth.
Ralph turned his natural charisma and love for people into a successful career in sales. He started out selling Cutco knives door-to-door and VitaCraft cookware by cooking full meals right in his customers’ homes. He spent several years at New Union Chevrolet (which gave him the perfect excuse to frequently drive a Corvette) and eventually retired from Hendrick Automotive after years of selling Acuras. Ralph truly loved meeting new people, and his customers often became friends for life. In retirement, he traded the showroom for the golf course, playing five days a week until swapping his clubs for card games with his buddies.
Above all else, Ralph was a family man. In 1961, he married Anne Burich, and together they shared four children: Russell (Sara), David (Zack), Greg (Sonia), and Cathy (Kevin). In 1985, Ralph married Janet Moore, blending their families to include her children, Chuck (Amy) and Taira. Ralph firmly believed there was no “yours and mine”—to him, they were beautifully and completely “OUR family.”
As “Papa Ralph,” his heart belonged entirely to his grandchildren: Joel, Zoe, Theo, Sadie, Ethan, Reese, and Brandon, as well as his great-granddaughter, Emelia. A book could be written about the bond they shared. Papa Ralph never missed a moment. He stood in the wind, rain, and mud to watch Joel play soccer; traveled multiple times to San Francisco to visit Zoe, Theo, and Sadie; sat through countless dance recitals for Reese; and spent years traveling to baseball tournaments to cheer on Ethan and Brandon, even when they competed against each other. Christmas Eve with Emelia held a uniquely special place in his heart. When health challenges eventually prevented him from being as active in their lives, his heart was broken, but his unconditional love never wavered.
Rest in peace, Papa. We love you always.

I truly loved this guy. He recruited me into the Cutco sales while I was stationed in the airforce and taught me how to sell single working girls in there hope chesting.many times when I was struggling financially he would take me on sales calls and give credit for the sales. I had very successful sales career thanks to him. RIP
