Kenneth Yoakum

Kenneth T. Yoakum, Sr., known to his loved ones as “Abner” was born in Middlesboro, KY on May 12, 1938 and departed to heaven from his home on October 18, 2003 after a viliant struggle with lung cancer. Memorial Services and celebration of life will be held 6:00 PM, Thursday, October 23, 2003 at New Life Ministries, 80th & Benton, KCMO. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lola Campbell Yoakum; sisters, Augusta Christine Baumgardner and Verna Tanner; brother, Duke Quinton Yoakum and infant brother, Jackie Ray Yoakum. Abner is survived by his Beloved mate, Jeannie; lifelong friend, Bill Alkire; very supportive friend, Guy Ahnew; father, Roy Alvis Yoakum; sister, Helen Campbell and brother, David Yoakum. He leaves his four daughters, Katherina T. Yoakum, Regina T. Yoakum, Joanna Green, and Debra Niemeyer, and one son, Kenneth T. Yoakum, Jr. Abner also leaves two stepdaughters and one stepson; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren. Abner was well-known as a roofer, master carpenter, and creative interior decorator. Abner’s very special events, co-hosted with Jeannie, for family and close friends were Christmas when he created new and outstanding Christmas decor each year; and Easter with an egg for each year (2003 eggs in the year 2003) holding cash, gifts, gift notes, or candy were hidden within their enchanting acreage to the delight of little and big kids alike. Ab enjoyed country music, space films, Chiefs games, gambling, fishing, camping, and watching artists create; he appreciated quality time at home with family, “chilling out”, jostling, and enchanting his natural surroundings. He loved living life to the fullest, even at risk. God was always in his Heart and at his side and Ab enjoyed Him very peacefully. Ab is missed very much by all his loved ones. Our thanks to Heartland Hospice.
