Shirley Holmes

Shirley Sylvia (Bree) Holmes, Independence, MO, died December 14, 2004, at Truman Medical Center Lakewood, Kansas City, MO. Cremation. Shirley was born March 13, 1923, in Fairmount, MO, and was one of six daughters of Herbert H. Bree and Claudia C. (Averill) Bree. She married Harry C. Holmes on October 26, 1938, in Plattsburg, MO, and is survived by their three sons, Gary Holmes and wife Nancy, Independence, MO, Randy Holmes, Independence, MO, and Phil Holmes and wife Julie, Evergreen, CO; daughter Joy Brown, Raytown, MO; sister Theresa Coffman, Belton, MO; six grandchildren, Stacy Coughlin, Kim Ellingson, Lara Stanze, Holly Harrington, Dr. Erick Gomer and Hunter Holmes; six great-grandchildren, Angela Coughlin, John Coughlin, Joshua Voyles, Jessica Stanze, Madison Stanze, and Ethan Ellingson. Shirley was employed at Lake City Arsenal during the Korean War, otherwise she was a full-time mother and wife and rejoiced in her family and in her cooking and baking, for which she was renowned both by friends and family. Shirley was a “Grand Lady” and will be greatly missed.
