Richard Spence

Dr. Richard E. Spence, 70, Independence, MO passed away December 25, 2004 at his home. Memorial Services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 29 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO. Contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice or the American Heart Association. Dr. Spence was born October 15, 1934 in Kirksville, MO. He attended Northeast High School, KCMO and graduated in 1952. He worked on his undergraduate degree at CMSU, Warrensburg, MO, graduating in 1956 where he was a part of the Sigma Ta Gamma Fraternity. He then attended Medical School at the University of Health Sciences, KCMO, graduating in 1959. He served his internship in Detroit, MI. He went into practice with his step-father for many years at DBA Walls Clinic. He was a race car driver in his youth, sponsored by Sites Brothers Chrysler. He won a Race Car Championship in 1967 in Long Beach, CA. Dr. Spence was preceded in death by his step-father, Emmett Walls; mother, Alice (Snowden) Walls and brother, Jerry Walls. He is survived by his wife, Lana Spence; sons, Duane, Robert, and Richard Spence; step-children, Tammy Thompson, Sharla Boynton, Bethany DuMay and Lane Harlan; sister, Carol Hazell; 7 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchilren and many nieces and nephews. Richard will be missed by his family and friends who loved him very much.
