Clarabel Duke, 98, Kansas City, MO, formally of Montgomery, AL, passed away September 11, 2007. Memorial services will be held 7 PM, Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Kingswood Retirement Community. Clarabel was born March 18, 1909 in Evergreen, AL. As a single mother, Clarabel supported her family with a lifetime of entrepreneurial ventures. When her daughter was young she purchased and rented homes for the airmen at Maxwell Field Air Force Base. At the age of 65, Clarabel built a greenhouse at her home. The potted plants she grew were sold to local grocery stores, long before grocers sold such goods. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, and is survived by three grandsons, eleven great grandchildren, and twelve great great grandchildren. (arr.
