Gwen Chappelow

Gwen Marie Chappelow, 79, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 with her husband of 60 years at her side. A memorial service will be held in the Country Club Christian Church Chapel, 61st & Ward Parkway, on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. Gwen was born in Kansas City, MO on July 3, 1928. She attended Southwest High School and then the University of Colorado where she majored in Journalism and was a member of the Buffalo Ski Club. Gwen married the love of her life Cecil Chappelow on November 22, 1947. Together they raised five children. In addition to caring for her family, Gwen was employed in the Admitting Department at St. Luke’s Hospital for over 27 years. Gwen embraced life with an energy that amazed and amused everyone who knew her. Her adventurous spirit and sense of fun called her to seek out new experiences every day whether at home or during her many travels. Gwen is survived by her husband Cecil Jr., their children: sons Cecil Chappelow III of Emmaus, PA, William Chappelow of San Diego, CA, and Jeff Chappelow, daughters Kimberly Lee of Shawnee, KS and Cathi Baca of Los Angeles CA, mother Maud L. Tucker of Prairie Village, KS, brother Richard Tucker of Kansas City, MO, sister Pat Morgridge of San Louis Obispo, CA, and grandchildren Aimee and Jonathan Chappelow, Griffin Lee, Kristi Chappelow, and Madeline and Keri Baca. Gwen’s friends and family will forever remember her upbeat attitude and mischievous smile.
