Julie passed peacefully in her sleep after a brief battle with cancer on June 19, 2009, surrounded by her family in her Independence, Missouri home at the age of 80. She was born on April 4, 1929, the only daughter of Florence (Lamb) and Howard Harbin, at the family farm near Blue Rapids, KS. She graduated from Irving High School in 1946 and married John E. Thomson on June 8, 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband and they are now together again after a 17 year separation. Julie was devoted to her family and leaves behind her son Bradley John Thomson and his wife Mary Jo of Oklahoma City, OK and her daughter Teressa Sue Hill and her husband Don of Independence, MO. She also leaves behind two loving grandsons who she adored, Doug and Brian Hill of Independence, MO, and one special cousin, Phyllis Hilton of Omaha, NE. She was active as a volunteer for Jobs Daughters and Young Matrons and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence for 33 years where she provided homebound communion and served as the nursery secretary. She worked for the Social Security Administration, Department of Defense, and assisted her husband with his accounting practice. She enjoyed family gatherings, bridge club, Ozettes and NARFE. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be directed to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, 11300 St Charles Rock Road, Bridgeton, MO 63044 or Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 333 N Summit Street, PO Box 10086, Toledo, OH 43699-0086. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 10 am at the First Baptist Church of Independence, 500 W Truman Rd, Independence MO 64050
