Barbara Elizabeth Adams Newlon, 58, of Eagle Rock MO, passed away on Sunday June 26th 2011 in Kansas City, Kansas from acute liver failure. She was born in Kansas City, MO on August 30th 1952 to Wanda and Pharm Adams. Barb and her brother David Adams spent many summers in Jonesboro AR with extended family. She attended North East High School and graduated in 1970. It was there that she met her life-long best friend Jackie Mahler-Oliver and her husband Bill Newlon. She attended many college courses while working full time and raising two children. Barb had a “life list” long before bucket lists were fashionable. She managed to complete everything on her list including owning a horse, visiting New Orleans, and running the camp ground at Viney Creek on Table Rock Lake. Barb moved to Eagle Rock in 1993 where she spread her loving demeanor and smiling face to customers at the L&L, friends as she cooked at The Office Pub, and residents of the Peachtree Village. Barb and her life partner, Lori Taton, were first responders for the Eagle Rock Fire Department. Being a first responder was the most difficult task Barb ever put her heart in to. She did it for the people who needed her loving touch in their moments of despair. Barb had a magical tepid touch and could melt any tense muscle and warm any heart. She loved nothing more than to sit by a campfire, after a day of canoeing, massaging tension from the shoulders of the ones she loved. Barb never met a stranger and had an epic heart for such a small stature. She is survived by her partner Lori Taton, her son Mickey Newlon, daughter Krisi Newlon, grandsons Levi Newlon and Jordan Newlon, granddaughter HaLeigh Newlon, brother David Adams, Aunt Mary Cooksey, and Uncle Tommy Cooksey. Barb was loving, tender, kindhearted and will be missed by all who knew her. Her celebration of life memorial service will be held at Lake Jacomo in shelter One on Saturday July 23rd 2011 at 6pm.

Barb, I am so blessed to have know you and called you friend. You showed me how to camp (and enjoy it). I will always remember the twinkle in you eyes and your wonderful dimple…you always looked like the cat that had just swallowed the canary.

I met Barbara in grade school and remained friends through high school, I had lost touch with Barbara. She was special in my life and I will always remember her fondly. it is nice to know she enjoyed camping, I remember our first camp experience at Camp Galilee in Mo. to her family my condolences in your loss.
Grandma Barb, I miss you so much. 🙁 My heart still breaks when I think of you, but now I know you’re onto a greater bucket list. One of my items on my bucket list is to be a chiropractor. You showed me how to adjust people at the age of 11 and I am told I have your touch. People just line up and lay on the floor waiting for massages and to be “popped” just like you used to do for everyone. I guess Ive taken over your roll. Its because of you that I found my true calling in life. I love you so much and I miss you dearly. Youre so amazing, and I miss your laugh. I be loving you grandma. RIP. :'(
