Violet Hampton

Violet “Vi” Christian Hampton, 77, passed away at home the morning of May 5, 2012, surrounded by her loving husband of 60 years, Claude, their daughter, Cheri, and their grandchildren Eric and Nicole.  Born in Tazewell County, VA on August 29, 1934, Vi grew up in Cedar Bluff, VA, graduating from Richlands High School in 1952.  Married on July 4, 1952, she and Claude moved to Cleveland, OH where he worked at the Rotor Tool Company and she worked as a Buyer for Curtis Industries in Eastlake, OH. When she retired in 1994, she and Claude moved from Willowick, OH to Kansas City to be closer to Cheri and her children.

Vi devoted her greatest passion to her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her relatives and her friends.  Through her loving and insightful influence, all who knew Vi benefited from her having been in their lives.  Her effect on others was as quiet as it was profound and is certain to echo through the relationships of those she touched for generations to come.

Vi is survived by her husband, Claude Hampton of the home, her daughter Cheri Hampton, of Prairie Village, KS, and grandchildren Eric Paden of Overland Park, KS, and Nicole Kirkeby & husband 1LT Ryan Kirkeby of Fort Rucker, AL. Other survivors include brothers Victor Christian (Bettyann) of Chattanooga, TN, Phillip Christian (Kay) of Kernersville, NC and sister, Carol Burress of Willoughby, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, V. V. & Pearl Christian and sister, June Christian, of Cedar Bluff, VA, brother Allen Christian (Irene) of Tazewell, VA, sister Mary Huckleberry (Charles) of Atlanta, GA, brother-in-law Robert Burress of Willoughby, OH and sister-in-law Billie Jane Christian of Bristol, TN.

A private family service will be held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that a donation is made in her honor to the charity of your choice. (arr. Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 816-313-1677)

My sincere condolences to you and your family Cheri. I know your beautiful mother will always be with you. Just look in the mirror for she is in you.

As a brother and sister in-law we started
our married life living with Vi and Claude.
Later we bought a home right behind them.
So many of our good memories have to do with time shared with them. The men
did the remodeling of both homes, while
    the women shopped or cooked.
For 6 years we were lucky enough to get
to share Cheri. Vi always trusted us to look after her.
Most weekends were spent with them, I
think it was because Vi was a better cook than I (Kay) was.
There will always be a special place in our hearts for them. Phil and Vi were only two years apart and treated like twins, which I think built the bond that was between them.
