Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
L. Ernestine Kratschmer passed away at her home on January 14th with her family at her side. She was just 2 weeks short of her 99th birthday.
Ernestine was born January 29, 1916 in Oklahoma to Lewis and Lockie Brown, the second of three children. Raised in Kansas City, she graduated from Manuel High School in 1932. During the war, she worked for H.L. Steel Co. in Kansas City.
While teaching dance at the PlaMor Ballroom, she met another instructor, Frank M. Kratschmer, who became her husband of more than 70 years. They were blessed with 3 daughters: Bonnie Downs, Patricia Thomas, Ellen Myeres, and a son Robert (who precedes them in death), 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Their love of dance, music, and adventure distinguished a vibrant social life characterized by dear friendships, extensive travel, and service to others. Ernie was a talented homemaker, accomplished seamstress, and consummate hostess. She volunteered tirelessly for the church, children’s schools, Scouts and other organizations, and served as an active member of the Builders Class at Blue Ridge United Methodist Church for almost 50 years. She loved spending time with family and friends. Ernie was a formidable bridge/gin player and continued to ace her opponents well into her 80’s. Frank and Ernie shared a rich, full life, having visited over 40 countries with family and friends, including many cruises with their children and grandchildren.
Her family extends a special thank you to the caring staff of Elder Care: Fassika, Debbie, Shirley & Lucinda for the compassionate care she received at home the last 4 years.
A private memorial service will be held in February.
