Walter ‘Ray’ Schoonover

Ray Schoonover, 93, passed away June 4, 2017. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Heartland, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64133. Donations can be made to the ASPCA.
Walter “Ray” Schoonover was born in Cainesville, MO to James Dow and Della Ann on June 20, 1923. He had one sister, Opal (Hart). He attended school in Princeton, MO and when he was 17, joined the Navy. After many years of being an auto mechanic and then maintenance for Total Petroleum he finally retired and he and mom moved to the lake where they continued to work – building and running a convenience store until 2013. Dad was always a people person and enjoyed visiting with customers. An avid animal lover, he enjoyed sitting and looking out the window at the birds. If he could, he would have taken in any stray cat or dog he saw. He had 11 children/step-children, 28 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
