Shirley Gene Taylor-Gipson

Shirley Gene Taylor-Gipson affectionately known as Grandma Shirley was born in Charleston, Missouri on January 9, 1946 to Gus and Martha Gipson. She grew up in Charleston, Missouri and later moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan as a young adult where she raised her four children. In 1989, Shirley moved to Kansas City, Missouri.

Shirley professed a hope in Christ at an early age. She joined the Greater St. Matthew’s Missionary Baptist Church in 1998. Shirley really enjoyed praise and worship and was a faithful member until she became ill.

Shirley really enjoyed life, she loved her family, friends, football and good food. She was known for speaking her mind. Shirley seem to tough, but really, she was a softie.

Shirley went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2017. She leaves to cherish her memory; her mother, Martha Gipson; brothers, Gus (Gloria) Gipson, Walter Gipson, both of Benton Harbor, Michigan; sisters, Betty (Dennis) Wyrick, Benton Harbor, Michigan, Bobbie (Henry) Coleman, Pontiac, Michigan; sons, Miron (Lawanda) Taylor, Kansas City, Missouri, Harland (Tomiko) Taylor, Benton Harbor, Michigan; daughters, Deborah Taylor-Gipson, Benton Harbor, Michigan, Carlotta S. Taylor, Kansas City, Missouri; Goddaughter, Cydney Hick, Kansas City, Missouri and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by; grandmother, Elnora Jennings; great grandmother, Alice Kelly and granddaughter, Myra Alexander.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd. Raytown, Missouri 64133. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the St. Matthew’s Missionary Baptist Church, 2835 Indiana, Kansas City, Missouri 65182. Burial will follow at XII Gates Cemetery.
