Tracy Loftus

Tracy Loftus of Lee’s Summit, MO was born on April 10th, 1950 in Kansas City, MO. He joined our heavenly father on October 15th, 2018 at the age of 68.

Tracy was a native Kansas Citian, who grew up as a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish. He was a graduate of Rockhurst High School in 1968 and went on to receive a BA degree from University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). The common theme through all of these years was his love of people. He never met a stranger and his humor was always present. Tracy’s work pursuits in the restaurant industry supported his interest to complete college, and eventually, was responsible for opening the restaurant at Lakewood Country Club, as manager. Most importantly, beyond the fine dishes, deep, lifelong friendships that exist today, were created in those kitchen’s. Further on in his work career, he moved on to other professional businesses to include working with his sister & brother-in-law, and finishing with UNBOUND (a non-profit) where his positive personality and sunny disposition made a strong impression on all.

During his formative years, Tracy developed what as to be a lifelong interest in music. This included publicly performing in a band, the Cavaliers, singing with family during car rides, and engaging in conversations with his nephews about the selections of modern music. In addition to his love of laughter, Tracy also had a passion for dogs. His regular routine included walks in the neighborhood, treats at the ice cream shop, and general “horsing around”. His caring and interest in his dogs drove him to regularly refer to them as ‘his kids”. Tracy’s kind heart and interest in others also translated into often offering a sympathetic ear when needed and donating time and money to those in need.

Tracy was the beloved husband of 23 years to Nancy (Peterson) Loftus. A loving stepfather to Thomas Owen (Hamilton OH) and Nicole Owen (Overland Park KS). Supportive Grandfather of 4 (Heather, Hannah, Haily, and Brad), and Great Grandfather of 6. Tracy was a loving brother and uncle to Michael Loftus – KCMO (Conor & Dan), and a loving brother to his two sisters Patricia McAnany – OPKS (Chris & Lindsay), and Mary O’Neill – Boca Raton, FL (Eilish & Ciara).

Tracy was preceded in death and joined in heaven by his brother Michael Loftus, his mother Mary Elizabeth (Mehan) Loftus, and his father Patrick Loftus, as well as other cherished aunts and uncles.

In his honor, a CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on OCTOBER 30th @ 2 pm, at his favorite park. Loose Park Garden Center KCMO in the ROSE GARDEN ROOM. Address – 5200 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64112.

Tracy’s wishes were that in lieu of sending flowers, memorial gifts in Tracy’s honor be made to UNBOUND, 1 Elmwood Ave. Kansas CIty, KS, 66103. Or online at www.unbound.org.

I knew Tracy from grade school through working at River Quay in its heyday. He was always fun to be around and excited about everything, usually with a comedic slant. He talked with you, not to you. He was a great guy. RIP. Bob P

An extraordinary, sensitive and caring man who I was blessed to call friend.
We lived a block apart and grew up together.
Our families shared similar circumstances with illness of homebound parents and as such were uniquely supportive of each other.

    Love

To My Dear Family: I am thinking of their mother Mary (my friend and surrogate Mom), Tracy, Michael, Moigy, Pinky, Pat and ALL their children, grandchildren and GREAT-grandchildren…Big Family…big F.

Good Memories: Sometimes I used to babysit Michael,Tracy and Moigy (Mary?) when Pinky went away to college. In fact, the three of them, the younguns’, visited me in San Francisco where I had a big flat,. One trip we took, a memorable excursion, was going up to the wine country, of course. They played tourists while I was working. Great fun.

The last time I was in Kansas City, the “whole family, including kids” met at Strouds’ for the very big, long table dinner, “family style,” of course. Michael and Tracy were there with their kids. Everyone was there. A comforting memory I often think about.

I have a quote from Baba Ram Dass that has helped me deal – goes something like this:

“We are all here to help walk each other home.”

Tracy, you were always one “Bright Shining Soul” in this sometimes dark & dim world.

Thanks for all the times you would come to listen to our music at Blayney’s, back in the day.

The Good Lord has called one of his “strongest spirits” back Home
