Gildo Vargas

Gildo “Ilde” Vargas, 67, passed away peacefully on the 27^th of May, 2021 at his home in Osawatomie, KS.

Ilde was preceded in death by his parents, Sotero and Luisa Vargas and three of his brothers; Juan Vargas, Bonafacio Vargas, and Ramon Vargas. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Teresa Vargas, his five children; Jason Vargas, Lydia (Adam) Cearley, Charles Lindsey, Rebekah Lee, Darryl (Rachel) Robinson and six cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by; Anselmo Vargas, Roberto Vargas, Elena Vargas, Margarita Vargas, Blanca Vargas along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins that held a special place in his heart.

     Ilde was born January 24, 1954 in Las Marias, Puerto Rico, but lived in San Sabastian until the age of 12 when he and his family moved to Brooklyn, NY. In 1977, at the age of 22, Ilde enlisted into the Army shortly after enlisting he married started a family with his first wife, Deborah Elder and had two children. He served four years with the majority of his time abroad in Germany. His love of Baseball drew him into owning a Baseball Card Shop in the 80’s called The Seventh Inning Stretch. Ilde served many years as Deacon in the church and spent countless hours serving the Lord. Ilde married the love of his life Teresa (Murray) on March 16, 1996 becoming a father to three more beloved children. 

Ilde worked 32 years for the Johnson County Courthouse starting in the grounds and maintenance department advancing to Building Engineer. After creating everlasting friendships, he retired at the age of 62 and enjoyed traveling with his wife Teresa on a cross country vacation. Ilde has inspired others to love art and drawing, music, movies & cinema and gardening as much as he did. Ilde was famous for his “Dad Jokes” and always finding humor in every situation. Most of all, he loved his large family, being a brother, uncle, husband, father and Abuelo to his six grandchildren; Zander Cearley, Ashten Cearley, Gabriel Vargas, Jayden Vick-Lindsey, Liam Motko, Tegan Foster. Being Abuelo gave him a great since of purpose. His unconditional love and advice showed how much he cared for others and his love for life.

Funeral services will be held at the Abundant Life Church in Overland Park, KS on Saturday, the 5^th of June, 2021. Visitation will be open from 2:00 to 3:00 pm with services at 3:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date in the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
