Leslie Brock, of Independence, MO, passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2022, at the age of 66.
Leslie was born on November 30 th , 1955 to George E. Spear Jr. and Doris J. Spear (Merry) in Belton, MO.
Leslie married Terry L. Brock on May 16 th , 1975 and enjoyed over 46 years of marriage together. Leslie
and Terry had two sons, James and John.
Leslie had a great work ethic and knack for helping others which led to two separate careers, one for the
Belton School District as a secretary at Yeokum Middle School for 15 years followed by 10 years as the
secretary for the Belton Police Department. Leslie made friends in every aspect of her life from the
School District to the Police Department to the community around her. She was a truly genuine person
who was always looking out for everyone else’s interests beyond her own.
Leslie loved being outside, whether that meant gardening, going on fishing trips with Terry or just sitting
by the fire at night. She also loved being creative and artistic either singing, painting or even sculpting.
Leslie’s beautiful voice provided her the ability to perform in The Music Man which toured Europe while
she was still in High School. And from time to time, she was gracious enough to sing solos at church or
perform the national anthem at her sons’ sporting events.
Leslie was also a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Independence.
Above all other things, Leslie loved being a great daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and wife. To her
grandchildren she was MeMe and she was the best MeMe the world has ever laid witness to. Words
cannot do justice for how much she will be missed, not only by her family but by all the lives she
touched along her journey.
Leslie is preceded in death by her mother, Doris J. Spear, father, George E. Spear, Jr., Aunt Elinor and
Uncle Robert (Bob) Steinbrueck, Uncle Paul Robert “Bob” and Aunt Berneice Merry, and Uncle Harry
Spear.
Leslie is survived by her husband, Terry, sons, James (Angela) and John (Lexi), grandchildren, Lilly, Sam
and Emilia, brothers Michael (Jan) and Brett (Jo), Step-mother, Barbara Spear, step-siblings, Barbara
Lynd (Bryce), Brent Gilmore, Mark Gilmore, Susan Wise (Kim), and multiple nieces, nephews, grand-
nieces and grand nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Independence at 500 W
Truman Rd, Independence, MO 64050 starting with a visitation at 10 am followed by a memorial service
at 11 am. An interment service for close family will be held directly after the service at Mt. Washington
Cemetery in Independence.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Save Our Sanctuary Fund for the First Baptist
Church of Independence. Donations can be made on the “First Baptist Church Indep MO” app or by
mailing them directly to the church at 500 W Truman Rd, Independence, MO 64050.

I first knew Leslie at Hillcrest Elementary where she was a student and I was a teacher over 55 years ago. I sang in a church choir with her mother and brother Mike. They, along with Leslie, had beautiful singing voices. When I taught at Yeokum Middle School, John was in my class and Leslie was the school secretary. She and John each had a fantastically wonderful sense of humor and we used to pretend when she called over the intercom, that she lived in the ceiling. John and I told my class that she had climbed up on the ladder in my classroom closet and couldn’t get down. Some of the students would actually look up at the ceiling when she called from the office. No one that I have ever known is sweeter, or funnier, or kinder than Leslie Spear Brock. My heart goes out to her whole family because I know you are suffering terribly from such a tremendous loss. ?
I’m so sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to the Brock family. I attended Yeokum while Mrs Brock was a secretary and I remember her warmth and kindness. When I was in high school, Terry was my manager at Dryden’s and James was a friend from school. Praying for peace.
Leslie was our school secretary when she and I were both at Yeokum. She was always so helpful and kind and at that time we talked together often. I had her son, John in band.
I have thought of her often over the years and hope she is in a better place. I’m so sorry she left this world at such a young age. My sympathies to the family.

Leslie and I were in high school and sang together with many others. She’s singing with the angels now. My sympathies to her family.
I first met Leslie at Yeokum where my children attended and she was the secretary. She sure put up with a lot from those kids back then. Always smiling. She was such a thoughtful, caring, and sweet woman. The light is a little brighter in Heaven.

Leslie and I were sopranos in a sextet group of 6 girls that sang all though High School together, she always had a smile and her silly ways of making everyone laugh! You will be truly missed dear.

Leslie was truly a beautiful person both inside and out. She was kind, loyal, funny, dedicated, and thoughtful. She will be sorely missed by every who was fortunate enough to know her. My heartfelt condolences to the Brock and Spear families.

Dearest Leslie was my first cousin, the daughter of my dear Aunt Doris and Uncle George. As she grew she was the spark and sparkle of our family gatherings, always making us laugh and enjoy ourselves even more!
She brought great comfort to my father, her uncle, after the loss of my mother and during his illness! We have always been so grateful for her invaluable warmth and concern! That was just her nature! Always caring and sharing her love!
She had the special gift of bringing sunshine to all! We are grateful to have had her in our family and may she be a continual inspiration to all of us!

Terry and family, Leslie will be missed by so many. So happy and so much fun to be around. I so enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day parade planning with Terry and Leslie, and the rest of the committee. Leslie always had a smile for all.
Dear Leslie, a precious lady and so loving. We shall never forget her wonderful sense of humor and the TLC she displayed to everyone from school days on. After a time to process this difficult loss, knowing Leslie is with our Heavenly Father is such comfort. Many Blessings to her family.

I am so sorry for your loss. This is a shock and way too soon. Thank you for sharing Leslie with all of us. Hers was a life of love, sharing, and selfless service. Her smile, laughter, and personality infectious.
I knew Leslie for over 60 years. We were family and church friends. We sang in choir, and we were in the BHS musical.
For over 10 years Leslie took care of us at Belton PD. She was our glue, and kept us straight. We retired together last April.
I love Leslie like a sister, and will miss her.

Leslie and I were cousins by marriage.
Her mom, Doris, our high school secretary, was twin sister to my aunt Eleanor Steinbrueck. Eleanor was married to my uncle Bob Steinbrueck who ran the Main Street business with my dad. We had many, many get togethers back in the day with lots of laughter and friendship.

I am so very sorry to hear about Leslie, and so sad for family and friends. She was always so positive and had a heart of love for her fellow friend, family and acquaintance- she lived by and displayed her love by way of the Golden Rule! Missing her!!
I am very sad that Leslie has passed on. She was an important person in my life. As is Terry and their family. She was a bright light in this world. When I think of her, all I can do is smile. Her kindness and genuine caring for us all was always present when in her company. She had that vibe that only a few people possess. Truly a magnetic person whom shared her love of life with us all. I Loved her a lot and will always remember her for who she was.

I hope Leslie knew what a positive difference she made in so many lives. Her unabashed love for life was unequaled and demonstrated to all who knew her by her insane sense of humor, compasion, genuine kindness, and endless generosity. My sympathies to the Brock and Spear families. I am stunned and shocked to learn of the passing of Leslie. Although Leslie married into the Brock family, Leslie will always be known to me as Leslie Spear. I knew Leslie all through school in Belton, Missouri. I suppose that I could be described as, “ornery”, in those days, but Leslie always seemed to bring out the best in other people, and this is true of me. Thinking back through those years, I don’t recall a single cross word that Leslie had for anyone. I have the fondest memories of Leslie. Leslie is one of a kind. I am certain that everyone that knew and loved Leslie will sorely miss her. Thank you to the Spear and Brock families for sharing such a beautiful person with all of us.

Deeply saddened to hear of Leslie’s passing. I have such wonderful childhood memories of her and later as neighbors of my folks. Never saw Leslie without a big smile. Her enthusiasm and spirit was infectious.

She was always very kind and a ray of sunshine when I would visit with her at the school. My heart goes out to the entire family.

I knew Leslie while going to school in Belton. She was always ready to talk and be positive. She will be missed. Condolences to her family and loved ones.
Heaven just gained a fun-loving angel. The students at YMS always thought we were twins. She always made the best out of a bad situation with her laughter and love. This has been such a shock to all of us. It makes us realize that we need to live life to the fullest because you just never know. What an amazing woman she was.

My mom and Leslie’s mom were twins. They were inseparable so, needless to say, we spent countless hours together growing up. It wasn’t until later in life, though, that we became exceptionally close. As our parents health diminished we forged a new bond. With my parents, Terry & Leslie we’re the ones that were always in touch & always showing up. I know THEY were the ones with others in their lives that provided comfort so selflessly. Leslie and I were in touch often. Weekly we’d share laughs, listen to each other’s frustrations, and encourage each other to be better. I will always admire her amazing work ethic, her quick wit, and her boundless love for Terry, James, John, and her precious grandchildren. Leslie was a genuine soul that more of us need to be like. Let’s all try to live a little like Leslie, no pretenses, caring deeply for others, and laughing whenever we can. We have lost a great one that I will miss dearly!
I knew Leslie when I worked for Belton School District. She loaned me some high heel shoes to wear to my 20th class reunion. She came to my house to practice so I could accompany her at a wedding. She had a beautiful voice. What a wonderful person. She will be missed greatly. I felt like I had known her forever.

Every since i came into the family, years ago; I always enjoyed my times talking with Leslie. She was “Always” so happy and so caring. Susan and I will always remember her in this way; and feel blessed with her being part of both of our lives.

We have known and loved Leslie since our school days. I was one of the lucky ones that got to sing with her in our Girls Sextet and choir in high school. She was a huge help to Casey when they both worked at Yeokum Middle School. One of my favorite memories of Leslie was when we both worked at TG&Y and she got up in the office and did her “woody wood pecker” imitation over the loud speaker! She was talented in so many ways (I can still hear her singing the Good Ship Lollipop) and will be missed by all who have known her. Hold tight to your faith and your memories knowing that she is wrapped in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.

So very sorry to hear this. Leslie was such a sweet, positive person when she worked at the school district and was so good making our daughter feel comfortable when we moved to the Belton district. And she was so friendly in her role at the Belton PD but also as a friend and customer of mine at Hy-Vee Gas. Prayers for you all.
