Denise Tavakolinia

Denise Tavakolinia, 57, of Kansas City passed away on the 7th of March, 2022 from cancer. She was surrounded by her husband and her children.

Denise was an eclectic hobbyist, a loving wife, a dutiful mother, and a spirited soul.

Her greatest joys in life were music, soccer, baseball, football, and exploring the great expanse of world religions and ancient philosophies. She passed these beloved interests onto her children, who carry them forward with pride.

Denise was dedicated to social justice, and her love for animals translated directly into a lifelong commitment to animal rights. She spent most of her working life contributing to the well being of cats, dogs, birds, and many other animals. Her compassion, organization, and vibrance were known to all who worked alongside her.

Denise is survived by her daughter, Angela, and two sons, Kaevan and Kamran, as well as her husband, Jalil.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to ASPCA or the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, two causes that were paramount to Denise’s activism. Memorial Service and Celebration of Life to be announced.

The family appreciates prayer and privacy in this time of mourning. Please be good to yourselves and to one another.

Be well.

Oh, Denise, my dear friend. I am so heartbroken to hear that you, at last, decided to grow your golden wings and fly to heaven. I sent you a messenger note just last week to see how you were doing. But this time, I had an uneasy feeling gnawing at my heart. You see, I wasn’t seeing any of your posts online. Those posts, always reflected your kindness, your humor, and -in the last few years- your admirable courage. When your didn’t reply by today, I checked your son’s page for any news. A part of me wishes that I had never checked. More than two decades of sharing friendship, our love for the Chiefs, and our concern for animals and humans alike, have been so precious to me. And although I never got to meet you and your dear family I always felt that you were closer in friendship to me than many that I casually call friends. I have and will never forget your effort 15 years ago when I had my big coronary event. At the time you only knew me as Frankie (a nickname that you gave me, that I used in the Chiefs fans group that we shared). Still, you found me and called my hospital room. Sometimes true friendships are confined to long distances, and I always cherish ours. Live in love and peace in heaven my friend.

To one of the strongest women we have ever had the pleasure to be around. Her convictions, sharp mind, love of a good debate, big heart, and quick laugh leave a lasting footprint on us all.

Love and prayers to the amazing men in her life,

    Fly free, soccer buddy!

Very hard to know what to say, but it’s not good-bye. Denise & I were linked through our sons’ love of music & our love of our sons (and their music!). She was decisive & caring & I know she’ll always be a supportive presence in her family’s lives- always.
