Charles Eldon Perkins, 86, of Columbia, MO died of kidney disease on March 28, 2022. He was born on May 28, 1935 in Augusta, IL where he graduated from high school. Later in his teenage years, he and his family moved to Beardstown, IL where he met his wife Kay and they wed on March 2, 1956. They had 3 children and then the family moved to Springfield, IL where he worked as a laborer at Allis Chalmers. After being laid off, the family moved to Decatur, IL where he worked at Borg-warner until the time the company shut down. He then worked for Venture until the time of retirement.
Charles had two loves, motorcycles and music. He spent his retirement doing what he loved to do, camping, traveling and playing his banjo and attending blue grass festivals. He always had at least one motorcycle in the garage. He enjoyed working on them and riding dirt bikes. He was very handy at carpenter work and was a good mechanic.
Charles then moved back to his home town of Augusta, IL in 2000 and then he moved to Columbia, MO in 2015 with his daughter.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Charles L Perkins and Vada E Perkins (Jones), his sister Joyce E Hiland (Perkins), a son Rodney L Perkins, and a grandson Clay Maschoff.
Surviving are his wife Kay Marilyn Perkins (Jones), of Centralia, MO; a brother Richard Perkins (Rhonda) of Centralia, IL; 2 daughters Sherrill Keune (Chris) of Springfield, IL; and Lori Maschoff-Long of Columbia, MO. He had 5 grandchildren Amanda Prather of Springfield, IL; Adam Maschoff of Columbia, MO; Mindy Minor (Scott) of Decatur, IL; Lee Perkins of Decatur, IL; and the late Clay Maschoff. Four great grandchildren, Julian, of Springfield, IL; Darrin, Avoree, and Kyly of Decatur, IL; and a great great grandson, Kyree, and several nieces and nephews.
