On April 19, 2022, at the age of 100+, Vivian M Loughead rejoiced when Jesus called her home. With 24/7 full time care by her great grandson James T Jr and the help of her Crossroads Hospice team, her desire to pass away in her home was fulfilled.
Vivian was born in 1921 in Kansas City, MO to Alvin and Iva Strandberg and welcomed by her brother Kenneth. She attended Askew Elementary, graduated from East High (1938) then studied at Kansas City Teachers College. In her early years, Vivian was a member of Benton Baptist church and Job’s Daughters.
In 1941 Vivian married Raymond Loughead. They were married a month short of 50 years when Raymond passed away. Together they lovingly raised 3 children. The family moved from Kansas City to Raytown in the late 1950’s.
Vivian joined Spring Valley Baptist church in 1962. Through the years she became actively involved including teaching Sunday School classes. She was heartbroken when, in her 90’s, her health began to decline, and she had to stop teaching the Friendship class.
When the two older children embarked on their own life journey, Vivian returned to school to pursue her desire to become a teacher. She graduated from Central Missouri University with a BS in Elementary Education. Vivian taught in the Kansas City school district then the Raytown School district until she retired.
Vivian enjoyed taking part in a wide variety of community activities and was a former member of the Model A club and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Vivian’s passions were her family and friends, her faith and helping anyone in whatever way she could. Vivian was held in high regard as the matriarch of the family because of the love she had for everyone, her ability to simply listen or offer advice and the security of knowing whatever was shared with her could be kept private. She tried to keep up with everyone and had an incredible knack of remembering details. Until about 6 months prior to her death; if someone was having troubling remembering something their first instinct was to ask Vivian. She will be missed beyond measure.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, daughter Janet “Jan”, her parents, brother Kenneth and his wife Claire along with countless treasured friends and family.
Her legacy carries on through her son James “Jim” R (Maria) and their blended family: 6 grandchildren: James “Jim” T Sr (Shirley), Melissa (DJ), Peter (Kelly), Billy (Chris), Debbie (Joe), David (Trina) 11 great grandchildren: James T Jr, Payeton, Ashlin, Corbin (Breanna) and 7 great-great grandchildren as well as multiple generations of nieces and nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Vivian was able to enjoy, and take part in, her own Celebration of Life when family and friends commemorated her 100th birthday. It was Vivian’s desire not to have a formal funeral. Arrangements have been made through Heartland Cremation and Floral Hills.
