Norton Okell Hickman, III

Norton Okell Hickman, III “Norty”, 50, of Raytown, MO passed away May 22, 2022 at St. Luke’s East Hospital from Heart Disease. A casual memorial gathering will be held from 10am-12pm on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133.

Norton, III was born on December 31, 1971 to Norton and Patricia Hickman of Raytown, MO.

Norty was a 1990 graduate of Raytown South High School and a Small Engine Mechanic. He rode his first motorcycle at age 10 and that love affair lasted for 40 years. He loved his bikes, working on his Harleys, making numerous trips to Sturgis and any beautiful day to ride hard and free with his friends. Norty would always tell us, “Make sure you tell your friends to watch out for motorcycles on the road!”.

He married Susan O’Connell in 1992 and together they had a son, Norty IV, who was the pride and joy of his life.

Norty loved his family, his mother’s cooking and delighted in being late for all special family dinners. He was a free spirit and was always ready for a party. Norty enjoyed living life to the fullest and on his own terms. His daughter Frankie had a very special place in his heart. He was truly a simple man that was witty, funny, smart, and kind. Norty loved the ladies, good music, walking on the wild side, helping people and had a soft spot for dogs—especially his beloved Ducky. His friends were an important part of his life. There are too many to list, but his family would like to thank Michelle, Art and GS for their friendship, love and support.

Norty never let his health issues get the best of him. He was brave, strong willed and gave a good fight until the end. He was surrounded by his family when he left for his final ride on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wilma and Maurice Hartman; paternal grandfather, Norton O Hickman, Sr.; uncles, Phil Harris and Bill Adams; cousin, Delene Harris Pewthers; and the love of his life, Nina.

He is survived by his parents, Norton and Pat Hickman; son, Norty IV; daughter, Frankie; sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Tim Atchity; nephew, Max Atchity and his fiancé Chelsea; niece, Gabrielle Atchity; special aunt, Billie Harris; cousin, Phil Harris, Jr; 103-year-old grandmother, Dorothy Hickman; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Saint Luke’s Foundation—Attention St. Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute.

The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the multitude of caring and compassionate doctors and nurses within the St. Luke’s Health System, most recently, those in the ICU at St. Luke’s East. Thank you, to all, for your dedication and knowledge that allowed us extra years to enjoy our son, dad, brother, uncle, and friend.

What can one say about Norty? Did he like me ? Who cares. I still liked him. Never did he shut his door on me. I know once or twice he wanted to or should have maybe. We rode together alot a few years ago. Did i get overspray on his bagger? Your damn right I did. Did he choke me till i passed out? Your correct again smacked me till i woke up and did it again. Im gonba say we may have had our differences but all in all he was a pretty good guy and rode my ass to be a better person i thank him for that for real and he will be missed by all of us. RIP NORTON YOU ARE ONE OF A KIND. Mom dad and kids im so sorry for your loss I know it hasnt been easy watching all of us live like we do. Love you guys all the same. Till we meet again ride hard ride fast and tell Brian im sorry about the teeth deal. Mlh&r

Norty you and I got very close very quickly, all over a car named Christine!!…lol, you named her not me!. For two months I was right there with you night and day, I think we both made sure at the end of the day we were ok. I only wish you could’ve stayed, we have so much to do still. I will cherish every moment I got to spend with you, every ride we took, every laugh, and every serious moment. You asked me something right before you went to the hospital and my answer is yes and I promise I’ll never forget you!!!. You are an amazing man with a beautiful soul that will always leave a lasting impression on all that know you. You are the best friend a girl could ask for and I’m honored to say you were a real friend of mine and you always have a place in my heart. I’ll see you when I get there, I miss you and love you!!!!! To your family I am sorry for your loss and condolences to every one of you as you go through this. If any of you need anything at all please don’t hesitate to ask I’ll gladly be there to help.

Norton, you have forever changed my life. You were there to give me a very important talk that I needed to hear, at a time when I needed it most. You reminded me of “my power” and told me to never forget that I hold it. Thank you for being my friend, thank you very much. Banana juice!!!! P.s. love you too Duck

My thoughts and love are with the family in this difficult time. Take solace in knowing that Norton was a gentle soul and a source of comfort and strength for so many people when they needed it most, never asking for anything in return. He will be missed and yet remembered by all of those who’s lives he touched. It obvious where those qualities came from, and I thank you for your kindness and support. With heavy heart I say goodbye to my friend, until we meet again. May you find peace and joy wherever you are and know you are loved and missed more than you know.

You saved my life. Noone knew me. Noone cared. God brought this crazy, scary looking biker guy into my life at one of my darkest hours and gave me a hand up despite what the people around you said. You took a lot of heat for that. I will never forget what you did for me because you could have said no. Enjoy the Eternal ride!!! You earned it and didn’t even know it.

Norton, you were one of my all time favorite students! I hope I loved you, pushed you, encouraged you. I guess I am glad you are at peace, but I will miss knowing you are here on earth, pushing limits, doing crazy stuff! I know I pushed you to graduate, and I am so glad I did! I will always remember how you were last in line at graduation because you and Patrick had to run to Noland Road to get the proper pants (and take them back immediately after the ceremony)! Rest in Peace, sweet friend! You were loved by many!
