“I am Joe’s sister. I want his beauty to be expressed as I see him.”
Joe gave and did more for other people than he could ever do for himself. Most people who knew Joe had a story that began with, “Joe saved my life when he…” or “I wouldn’t be here today if Joe hadn’t…”
Joe had a contagious smile and a warm embrace that rejected no one. He felt everything you were feeling as though it were his own. Whether he was working hard on his musical career, or jamming on the couch with friends, he could heal your soul with a little guitar riff and a few simple lines.
He pushed you when you needed pushing and hugged you when you needed hugging. There was not a person in the world that Joe would not drop everything for when they needed help. If you knew Joe, you knew you were deeply loved; you knew you had a friend for life. Joe may have been my big brother and my best friend but, in reality, he was everyone’s big brother and everyone’s best friend.” – Sarah
Joseph leaves behind his three beautiful children and the mother of his children, Michelle Davenport. He also leaves behind his loving parents; Jim and Karen Davenport, his three sisters; Sarah Davenport, Megan Davenport and Shalimar Carlton, and his paternal grandmother, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

I will miss you buddy. Some of my best memories in during my college years were at Sea Coast Grace with you. I will always remember your fish song about George which made me laugh. People always thought we were brothers because of our similar appearances and our enormous bear hugs. I will contine to carry on the bear hug legacy for us both now. Until we meet again in the arms of our Lord and Savior, rest in peace and thanks for the memories.
“We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.”

I will miss you greatly cousin. Jesus holds you now.
Until we meet again.
I think it would be an understatement to say that Joe saved my life. That just doesn’t have the impact that Joe had on my life. He saved my life literally and figuratively. I have had friends come, and friends go. The most consistent in my life is that of Joe. For the last 30 years we have been pal-ing around. From playing music in Youth group to living in LA and pursuing our musical dreams, moving back up to Northern California, Nashville and Kansas City together. There hasn’t been a time where we weren’t connected these 30 years.
It hurts so bad to lose you Joe. Damn it hurts. I would trade places with you in a heartbeat, because I know the impact you continued to have on this life and the people that were blessed enough to know you.
I’m going to do my best to honor our friendship and to push others like you’ve pushed me. To be better, to have empathy, compassion and not ever look down on others. Yours are shoes that will never, ever be filled by anyone in my life.
I love you man. I’ll try to be 1/10th as good as you were knowing I’ll never hit that mark. See you when I’m looking at you bro.
My love always. Your brother in Christ, Kenny.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Treasure his soul through his songs.
So sorry for your lost ! Joe was a good man always so sweet to all. Rest In Peace my friend until we meet again ?
