Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Michael Richard Crump of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away peacefully on February 24, 2023 surrounded by family after a months-long battle with pneumonia.
Michael was born on February 27, 1953 in Independence, Missouri to Vernon and Doris Crump. He spent his childhood in Kearney, Missouri where he was on the high school football and basketball team, was class president, and participated in numerous other activities. He appreciated growing up in the community and established many lifelong friendships. He then attended Northeast Missouri State University and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He loved his fraternity brothers and looked forward to the annual get togethers, where the stories got bigger and better every year!
He married Randi Crump (Walker) on February 12, 1977 and they went on to have 2 amazing children – Jeffrey and Megan. Watching his children grow up gave him so much joy. He loved bragging on them, although maybe exaggerated at times, he always wanted to let everyone know what they were up to. The only thing he liked bragging on more than his children were his grandchildren. The family was lucky enough to keep him around long enough to meet all 4. He was so proud of them.
He started his professional career in the car business and owned several car lots. He ended his career owning Michael’s Lakewood Pub and Lakewood Liquors which he had for 20 years. He enjoyed meeting and getting to know every customer that came in. He considered them all his friends.
Mike loved playing golf, he had been a member of Lakewoods Oaks Golf club and Porto Cima golf club. He spent many hours golfing with his friends, and many more hours tallying the score and settling the bets!
He leaves behind his wife of 46 years Randi Crump, son Jeffrey (Jill) Crump, daughter Megan (Jason) Sommerville, grandchildren Quinn and Gavin Crump, Jett and Leighton Sommerville, and many other extended family members and countless friends.
He will be dearly missed but his memory will live on. A service has not been planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute in his memory where Mike was fortunate to have received a heart transplant ten years ago. He was always grateful for this gift of life that allowed him the opportunity to witness so many monumental life events. He appreciated the excellent care he received from everyone there. Follow the link and choose St Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute in the Gift Designation box. https://saintlukesgiving.givevirtuous.org/Donate. We would also like to encourage everyone to consider becoming an organ donor.
