Edmund “Ed” James Wcislo, Jr.

Edmund James Wcislo, Jr., 69, of Mission, Kansas passed away February 24, 2023. He was born on April 13, 1953 to Edmund James Wcislo, Sr. and Estelle Francis McDermott in Edison, New Jersey. He loved anything that had to do with the beach, Jimmy Buffet and jazz music. He loved being on the open waters snorkeling, scuba diving and soaking up the sun. The coast was definitely his favorite place.

Ed loved to travel. Road trips were very common and driving from Kansas City to the East Coast to see his brothers and their families was always one of his favorites. Ed was a huge family man and was always amazing at reaching out and keeping in touch. He enjoyed his Harley in his younger days and was always great about giving the kids a ride.

He was an avid Pool player and quite good at it. He loved attending art festivals, local events and farmers markets. He cherished time with his family and took up photography to capture moments of his grandchildren during sporting events. Ed loved his nephews as if they were his own sons and always spoke of how proud he was of them. He enjoyed old movies, riding his bike, flying his drone and working on Sudoku puzzles. It was not uncommon to find him just going for a ride on a beautiful day.

His amazing wit and charm made us all laugh and his chuckle was contagious. He never had a shortage of jokes and was always there to offer an amusing time. His presence was always very inviting, even if he did have the most intimidating handshake.

Ed loved to cook. He took so much pride in it. He would spend days prepping for Thanksgiving just to smile while watching everyone enjoy the fruits of his labor. His stuffing was the best!

Ed cannot be summed up in a letter. If you knew him, you were blessed. There are just some things you cannot put into words. His sense of humor and warm heart will be deeply missed.

We love you “Papa Ed”, “Uncle Ed”, “Eddie”. Gone too soon.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents Estelle Francis (McDermott) Wcislo and Edmund James Wcislo, Sr.; and brother Alex Nagy. Survivors include daughters Jessica K. Brown (mother of Alexis Carmela Brown-Doane and Avery Ann Redmon) and Jaclyn Brown (mother of Orin and Sophia Humprhey); Jessica and Jaclyn’s mother Judy Brown; fiance Michelle Johanning; brothers Robert A. I miss you Papa Ed… Ed has been in my life since me and Jess can remember and we will never forget what a blessing it has been to have such a kind hearted, genuinely loving, and intellectually stimulating person in our lives to call our “dad”, our “Papa Ed”. The world has lost a genuinely selfless, amazing person as our world is facing a loss that can not be compared or put into words. Ed saved me, my sister and my mom in a way that we will always be grateful for and we will never forget. There is a massive hole in my heart. I keep thinking I am going to hear his laugh again. I can’t imagine a world without Ed’s laugh. You are truly missed Papa Ed and you are always loved. Rest In Peace Papa Ed. The world is a little less bright now that you are no longer in it. Until we meet again… love, Jackie

It’s been a tad over a tear now and your ashes are overlooking our spot at the beach in LBI…but fear not…I saved some for the Seaside Boardwalk..
