John Chaplin

John Chaplin was born October 15, 1945 in Nottingham, England. He passed away Saturday April 1, 2023.

He was born a twin – brother Michael plus his brother Geoff and Robert. He graduated from Manchester University with a Masters in Physics. He came to the US in 1967 on a Management Training Program with General Electric. His first assignment was in Oklahoma City where he met his wife Barbara Chaplin. He was drafted into the US Army and was sent to Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital as a Nuclear Physicist. While in the Army he became a naturalized citizen. After finishing his two years in the Army, he returned to work as a Manager for GE. His son Christopher and daughter Lisa were born in Denver, Colorado. He was transferred by GE to Kansas City in 1975. He stayed with GE until 1982 when he started working for Siemens as a Field Engineer and traveled all around the world to repair Siemen’s switch gear and circuit breakers. He retired from Siemen’s in 2014.

He is a member of Leawood UMC where he loved attending church services and a member of the YMCA where he went almost every day to exercise and he enjoyed talking to the staff and other members. He never met a stranger. People found his to be humorous and delightful. He made an impact on people and was a bit of a character.

He leaves behind his wife Barbara, son Christopher and his grandchildren Robbie & Lauren, his daughter Lisa and his brother’s Michael, Geoff & Robert Chaplin. In addition are two Step-brothers: Richard and Harold. Included, of course, are all the spouses and children and grandchildren who loved him dearly.

The family will hold a private service to remember John at the end of May. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to John’s home church, Leawood United Methodist Church, 2915 W 95th St, Leawood, KS 66206.
