Richard Clair Montee, 81, of Independence, MO passed away October 8, 2023.
A celebration of life for Richard will be Monday October 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. A luncheon will take place after the service.
Richard was born and raised in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Southeast High School and Central Missouri State University. He married Deloris Anne Lynch on June 1, 1963, and they made their home in Raytown, MO. Richard worked as a stockbroker before becoming a real estate agent and then a general contractor. He built hundreds of homes, over 40 years, in the Blue Springs and Lee’s Summit area.
Throughout his life, he had community involvement through The Home Builders Association, school district committees, Meals on Wheels, and church volunteering. He also had a pilot’s license and enjoyed camping, motorcycles and boating at The Lake of The Ozarks with family and friends.
His biggest achievement in life was his beautiful family, that he raised and enjoyed. He was involved as much as a grandfather could be. He often juggled time between activities like baseball, swimming, concerts and school performances, all to be there for his kids and his grandkids, whom he was very proud of.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Dorothy Montee.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Deloris (Lynch) Montee, Daughters Nichole Johnson (Brian) and Kristi White (Chris), Son Cory Montee, Grandchildren Landry, Faith and Roark Johnson, Josie and Mitchell White, and Allyson Wegner (Ethan), Brother Steve Montee (Sandy) and Sister-In-Law Judith Ramirez. Nephews Mark Montee (Kelly), Jeff Montee, Damian Ramirez and Niece Dahlia Ramirez.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Donate Here in Memory of Richard
Dee, Nichole, Kristi, Cory and family,
Mere words are insufficient to express my sadness and sorrow hearing of Richard’s passing. He was a fine man, and meant a lot to me as a friend and fraternity brother. I, like the rest of you, will miss him very much. That simple phone greeting of “Montee” will live in my memory forever. God bless all as you face the future without him, but I am confident that significant, indelible memories of a life well lived will sustain you.
I attended church with Dee and Richard at Woods Chapel. Richard and I served on the Cancer Connection ministry together. He was always willing to offer a helping hand. He will be missed.
May his family feel God’s comforting love during this difficult time.
Dear Dee and Family,
My husband Brand and myself would like to offer our sincere condolences for the loss of Richard. Words cannot express how sorry we are. We pray for you and your family. We will keep you in our thoughts and in our prayers.
