Betty Jo Ann Haug, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 11, 2024 in Jefferson City, MO.
Betty, the daughter of Wesley and Myra Grote was born on October 29, 1942 in Oakdale, IL. She was raised in Granite City, IL with her siblings LaVerna and Jim. Jack and Betty Haug were united in marriage on August 24, 1963 and celebrated their 60th anniversary this past year. He survives in Jefferson City, MO. Betty was a member of 2nd Baptist Church during her time living in Granite City, IL.
Betty attended SIUC where she pursued her business degree. For the majority of her career, she worked as the Executive Assistant to the CEO of Edison Brothers in downtown St. Louis, MO, which she retired from in 2002. In retirement, she and Jack moved to Jefferson City to become full-time grandparents to Abbey, Alli, and Lexy.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her son Dan Haug of Jefferson City, MO, granddaughters, Abbey (Mason) of St. Louis, MO, Alli (Chris) of Springfield, MO, and Lexy (Zach) of Jefferson City, MO, sister LaVerna Corbitt of Bethalto, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Myra Grote and her brother Jim Grote.
Betty was an avid sports lover of the Fighting Illini, Kansas City Chiefs, and Missouri Tigers (when they weren’t playing against the Illini), but her favorite teams were any team that her son or granddaughters were a part of. She and Jack were known for being the first fans in the gym or stadium dressed in matching team crewnecks, toting her tripod and video camera. Aside from watching sports and spending time with her granddaughters, Betty adored visits from her “grand dogs.” Betty lived a full, happy life focused on her faith and family.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Please accept our sincere condolences. We will miss her very much. Love to you all.
