Emma Amanda Passman, 73, of Independence, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the Independence Manor after a long illness. Emma was born on January 11, 1950 in Warrensburg, Missouri to George and Lillian Barnett. She leaves her husband of 42 years, Lewis and a son, Jacob of the home. Emma resided in Independence most of her life. She was a 1969 graduate of Northeast High School. Emma retired from Lee’s Summit Medical Center in 2016, where she worked as a dietary assistant. Emma, Lewis and Jacob attended the East Alton Congregation of the Community of Christ, and for the past three years, the Village Heights Congregation.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Lillian Barnett; and two brothers Jerry and Sam Barnett.
Emma was a well of unconditional love.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family requests donations be made to Camp Moja, c/o Central Mission, 500 W. Pacific, Independence, Missouri 64050.

Dear Lewis and Jacob, We are extending our thoughts and prayers to you regarding the news of your wife and mother’s passing after a lengthy illness. We know you were there every step of the way from the times of Emma’s diagnosis and comforted her along the way during her challenges as her illness increased in severity or you could say decreased her independence as a family member. Changes of responsibilities within a household is never easy.. Transitions in life whether lengthy or unexpected there is no right time to be able to prepare yourself for the loss of someone you live so dearly. You can say you are ready to say goodbye and accept the known of one’s passing. Death still stings and the emotions are real and genuine. Grieving is necessary so one doesn’t lose one’s own way in the next stages of processing what life with Emma had been for 42+ years and what lies ahead for both of you.Never forget she lived purposely and brought much love and joy into all those people’s lives that she touched through her employment at LS Medical Center and as being a member within your congregations. Her spirit and presence must be held near as those are the memories that will assist you in going forward . Share with others the blessings she brought into your lives. There is an Angel amongst you.
