Joseph Duncan

Joseph Duncan of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on July 27, 2026.

Joe was born on March 8, 1939, in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, to Alma and Joe Duncan, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rea E. Duncan, two sons, and his brother.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan, Cheri, and Teena; stepdaughters, Jenny and Tammy; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1978. A decorated veteran and Purple Heart recipient, he dedicated more than two decades of his life to military service. Following his retirement from the Army, Joe began a second career in property management, managing apartment communities, and building lasting relationships with residents and coworkers.

Joe graduated from high school in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, and never forgot his Pennsylvania roots. He was known for his dry sense of humor, strong opinions, and a gruff exterior that often hid a caring heart.

His first love was baseball. He was an avid Kansas City Royals fan who rarely missed an opportunity to follow the team and was equally passionate about Kansas City Chiefs football. Joe also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, bobbleheads, puzzles, and countless pieces of memorabilia that may not have held much value to others, and occasionally tested his wife’s patience, but brought him immense pleasure and enjoyment throughout the years.

Joe lived a full life marked by service, perseverance, loyalty, and love for his family. He leaves behind many memories and stories that will continue to be shared by those who knew and loved him.

He will be missed and remembered.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery on August 6, 2026, at 12:30 p.m.
