Paul Martin Montez

Paul Martin Montez, age 63, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends. Paul was born and raised in Northeast Kansas City and was the youngest of his siblings. His childhood was rooted deeply in family, faith, and community. He spent his childhood running Cambridge with his siblings, cousins, friends and other neighborhood kids. They’d spend countless hours playing outside at the local parks. He loved sports from an early age and played baseball, basketball, and football at the Whatsoever Community Center.

Paul graduated from East High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. After serving, he worked for Bayer Technology and later became a security guard. Paul had a love for music and even played the bass in his younger years. He enjoyed sitting in his truck listening to the radio; he especially loved rock, jazz, and the band Headz Up. He was a true and devoted Kansas City sports fan who could always be counted on to cheer for his Chiefs and Royals. He enjoyed Mexican food, good music, and the simple pleasures of life; and if you knew Paul, you probably knew him with a cigar in one hand and a beer in the other.

Paul had a special love for his cats, Sasha and Sabrina. He also profoundly cherished his many, many nieces and nephews and loved spending holidays with them and watching them grow throughout the years. His presence at family gatherings, his personality, and his contagious laugh will be greatly missed. Paul may no longer be sitting in his truck with the radio playing, cheering on his favorite team, or gathering with his family for the holidays, but the memories he created will remain forever.

Rest easy, Paul. You served your country, you loved your family, and you left this world having given the greatest gift of all—the gift of life. Your chair may be empty, but your place in this family will never be. You will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.

Paul was preceded in death by father Lupe Montez; mother Guadalupe Moreno-Montez; partner Darlene Vogt; and brother-in-law Michael Borucki. He is survived by sister Anna Borucki; brother Anthony (Kimberly) Montez; niece Hayley (Israel) Hernandez; nephew Shannon (Deanitra) Rakestraw and niece Denise Seutter & Jessica Gutierrez; great-nephews Alexander Seutter, Phillip Rakestraw and Israel Hernandez Jr.; great-nieces Brittany Rakestraw, Alexandrea Seutter, Alyssa Rakestraw, Alexis Rakestraw, Aneesia Seutter, Ariah Rakestraw, Adriana Rakestraw, Aunalea Rakestraw, Rhema Hernandez, and Hazel Hernandez; great-great niece Alaia Fualau.

Visitation will be 10am, Friday, August 21, 2026, followed by the funeral at 11am, at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, Missouri 64133.
